With this project, we aim to build capacity for facilitating enduring disability justice in nursing using a multimodal, collaborative approach to transform teaching practices, curriculum, and clinical settings. Engaging stakeholders across the spectrum, our vision for this project begins with grassroots analysis of the problem combined with a deep analysis of the existing literature on nursing education and disability structured using a conceptual framework rooted in Butterfield’s Upstream Model for Population Health, disability justice, the political and structural determinants of health and design justice. Transforming a deeply ableist culture like nursing and the health professions is requires collaboration, which is reflected in our project’s development our collaborative partnerships across the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing (EMCON), University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass), area clinical agencies, and local and state professional and political organizations.
