4-Coach Math is a web-based tutoring system for 3rd through 6th grade students who are learning mathematical reasoning and problem solving through word problems.Â
It provides practice for math problem solving and preparation for math achievement tests.
4-Coach Math is an open education resource project of the Department of Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies of the College of Education, University of Massachusetts Amherst.
An initial version called 4mality was developed with funding support from the Verizon Foundation and a grant from the US Department of Education, Institute of Education (IES).

It teaches mathematics concepts and problem solving skills based on the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Framework and the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.
It features four coaches Estella Explainer, Chef Math Bear, How to Hound, & Visual Vicuna who offer reading, computation, strategy, and visual strategies for solving math problems.
It supports learning by students with different levels of math knowledge.
It is designed with standardized testing in mind, with practice questions that follow a multiple choice or open response style.
It provides students with continuous feedback about their performance.
It offers online ways to assess and document student's accomplishments in math learning.
