This was a mixed methods research project I completed over the course of my final year.
It was completed with a fellow peer and we went through the research process together.
The purpose of this research was to gain a greater understanding of the subjective views that adults with disability have on smartphone use, and to explore the possibility of how the use of smartphones could enhance the quality of life for adults with disabilities in Ireland.
To the right of this text, you can see our final research paper and below this our research poster which outlines the highlights of our research project.
As part of a module in my final year of this course, a classmate and I had to create and justify a role for an occupational therapist in a setting whereby the role of occupational therapy is not well-established or where traditional medical models may not be the best fit.
My classmate and I completed this project with Lisavaird Co-Op with a focus on farmers mental health due to it being a topical issue in the media. Our mission statement read as follows; “our mission is to provide accessible and compassionate mental health services tailored to the unique needs of Irish farmers”.
This project has provided me with valuable skills and knowledge that will undoubtedly benefit me in my future work. It required me to be creative, flexible, and possess the ability to adapt to new environments and populations. Overall, it provided me with the opportunity to expand my skillset, collaborate with other professionals, and advocate for the value of occupational therapy in non-traditional settings.
