The 50's were a decade of color, and it can be difficult to find carpeting that matches the original. We are the only Packard shop in the world to have in-house equipment, dyes, and expertise to dye carpets.
These two photos show the results of experimentation towards finding a fine complimentary color for a 1955 Packard Four Hundred in Sardonyx. The original carpet was off-white, as shown at right.
What Carpet was in the V8 Packard Cars?
The 1955-56 Packard cars used three types of carpet:
The Patrician, 400, and Caribbean used a "frieze" carpet (pronounced "fri-zay" in the carpet world), a distinctive type of pile made from loose strands instead of a simple cut or loop pile. Though frieze carpet is commerically available, it is very unusual in the automotive world. The only other car known to use this type was the 1956 Lincolns.
