Our research focuses on the genetic basis and the molecular mechanisms involved in complex diseases and traits. For that purpose, we perform genome-wide association studies, admixture mapping, and next generation sequencing analyses aiming to disentangle the genes involved in disease pathogenesis, severity, and treatment response. We also carry out analyses of gene expression, epigenetic modifications, and cellular signaling mechanisms involved in health outcomes and drug response. Additionally, we aim to study the role of the human microbiome in health and disease, and its interaction with the human genetic variation. The main diseases and conditions that are currently studied by our group are asthma, allergic diseases, and uterine leiomyomas.
Our group is part of the main Spanish network for research on pulmonary diseases (Centro de Investigaciones Biomedicas en Red de Enfermedades Respiratorias, CIBERES) and we participate in the consortia Pharmacogenomics in Childhood Asthma (PiCA) and Systems pharmacology approach to difficult-to-treat pediatric asthma (SysPharmPediA). We are always open to new collaborations.
