The Ukcanza Institute of English was founded in 2022 to promote and teach British English to the world. We are based in the beautiful Republic of Botswana.

There so many platforms on the internet that teach  American English or a mixture  of the two because they do not know the difference between the two languages.  There are big differences!

Many platforms are started by people who have English as their second, third or even fourth language. These platforms usually do not insist on their tutors being native English speakers or even having an English language teaching certificate!

The prime motive for  many English Language teaching platforms is to make a profit, a very big profit! With very little or no regard  for the quality of teaching being offered.

The Ukcanza Institute of English is just a little bit different to every other platform, here's how.

Every single tutor that applies to Ukcanza must be a qualified English language teacher with at least a 120 hour  TEFL / TESOL certificate before they are even considered.

Prospective tutors must then sit a placement test, which they must achieve C2 level before they are  be personally interviewed by a senior tutor. If they can show that they are a native speaker of British English, then and only then can they become an Ukcanza tutor.

Why such a long process? It's because we only take the best tutors. Bad tutors only mean bad teaching and that results in bad English being learnt by the students.

We believe that the best way to learn a language, any language, is by using the same way that you learnt your own language... By LISTENING first, then SPEAKING followed by READING then WRITING and then finally learning about GRAMMAR.

This is the way you learnt your language. you LISTENED to everything to learn the sounds and work out the vocabulary you needed; then you started to SPEAK and LISTEN. At no point did you need to know what a noun, a determiner or subordinate clause was. You didn't need to know your present simple and future perfect tenses. You certainly didn't get given grammar worksheets by your parents, so why do you think you need to know all this to speak English?

You don't!

Learning English by learning grammar, then long lists of vocabulary doesn't work. That's why you are reading this. After so much hard work you still find it impossible to speak English.

The secret to learning a language is to LISTEN AND to SPEAK, not by reading a book about it. The only problem is this: people stop listening at about the age of twelve.

At Ukcanza, we teach you how to start listening again with daily listening exercises. Once you start listening again and stop thinking about grammar all the time, your English will improve dramatically.
