Competition Dates

Rules & Regulation

Presenter  

• Minimum number of presenters is 1; maximum number of presenters is 3.  

• Presentations are to be spoken word (e.g. no poems, raps, or songs).  

• Presentations are to commence from the stage. 

Language  

• Only English OR Bahasa Malaysia language is allowed during the presentation.  

Time  

• Maximum presentation is 7 minutes. The 1st bell is at minute 5, and the 2nd bell is at minute 7.

• The presenter will not be evaluated after the 2nd bell. 

Presentation Aids  

• A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted. No slide transitions, animations, or 'movement' of any description are allowed.  

• No additional electronic media (e.g. sound and video files) are permitted. 

• No additional props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are permitted. 

Judging Criteria  

• The decision of the adjudicating panel is final. 

• The following criteria will guide the judges’ decisions:  

  • Idea/product commencement: Concise, specific, and measurable.  

  • Flow of ideas: Is the presentation, research significance, results/impact, and outcomes communicated in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience? 

  • Knowledge impact: Does the presentation clearly describe the impact and/or results of the research, including conclusions and outcomes?  

  • Contribution: Does the solution contribute to the community and/or country? 

  • Cost:  Is the incurred cost reasonable?

  • Commercialization Potential: Does the idea/product set a new trend or potential for a new market, increase interest in a new trend/ market, and expand an existing trend/ market?  

  • Engagement & Communication: Does the speaker have sufficient stage presence, eye contact, and vocal range; maintain a steady pace, and have a confident stance? 

  • Slide:  Do the PowerPoint slides enhance the presentation – are they clear, legible, and concise?
