Superintendent Newton: "Tonight, the spotlight will shine upon the Uinta 4 administrative team that I have had the pleasure of working with in my role as superintendent. As I depart, I want to take the time to publicly and officially thank them for what they do. I have chosen to never honor the admin team as part of our Spotlight on Success program but now is certainly the appropriate time. It is well deserved and a long time coming. The school district will continue to be amazing because this crew will be back."
This month, we recognize McKinlee Covolo as the 3A/4A Southwest District Female Student Athlete of the Year, as well as this year's retirees, John Lupher, Quinn Martin and Michelle Black, and service pin recipients - 30 Year Honorees Kirsten Bird, Colette Bugas and Pam Sibert; 25 Year Honorees Kim Williamson and Cari Sue Covolo; 20 Year Honorees Lori Erickson, Ann Kofford and Jennifer Larsen; and 15 Year Honorees Kelsey Van Dusen and Tarl Van Dusen.
MVHS recognizes our summer school staff of teachers and para professionals who go waaaaayyyyyy beyond the call of duty to support students after the regular school year ends. Mr. Mills and Mrs. Tinker are offerin special summer school sessions in their content areas to help keep students on track for graduation. They are supported in their classrooms by the hard work of Mrs. Larsen who works with students individually to be sure they get the work done and stay on track for credit. And Mr. Clark is helping students learn valuable work skills during the summer as he supports them to earn money and develop those "soft skills" so they can be independent in the future. Thank you all
Special Education Department Shouts Out for the month:
Lori Erickson- Lori has been pulling double time hours this month covering for another staff member whose out on medical leave. She took it up on herself to cover all of the speech cases and close them out as we wrap up the year. She did this without saying a word, or asking anyone about it. She assumed a hefty work load and took it upon herself to get it done, without complaining or asking for any help. That just seems to be the kind of person she is, a good human who steps up to meet the needs of students, when it's needed, without saying a word. She's done a tremendous job this month keeping our Speech and Language department up to speed, delivering the consistent, quality services for student. THANKYOU for your extra time and hard work this month!
The April spotlight shines upon our Library Media staff: Tori Carter, Kim Tait, and Trina Thomas do a great job running our libraries. They all are excellent at working with students and staff. We are fortunate to have all three of them working in our school district.
MVHS wants to thank high school Art teacher Jesse Hawk and middle school Art teacher Randi Egley for their hard work in supporting students to get to the State Art Symposium in Casper. 11 students received at least one Blue Ribbon at this year's Symposium continuing the strong tradition of MVHS Art students representing themselves and their school so well at this event. Mr. Hawk and Mrs. Egley work well to organize, travel, and support our highest performing Art students.
Special Education Department Shout Outs for the month:
Xavier Aleman- Last week Xavier took time out of his personal life and put in some extra hours for the school to help chaperone and supervise some SPED students on an FCCLA trip. He didn't have to do this, but his willingness to made it possible for our SPED students and others to have a positive experience. When he was asked to do it, he didn't raise any concerns, he looked for the positives in the situation and kept his focus on helping students. Xavier's para support for our SPED students is absolutely top notch. Thank you for the work you do with our students. I appreciate it! Our district is very fortunate to have you. THANKS!
Dustin Rees recently received the Good Sportsmanship Award from WHSAA, the first time in memory this award was given to a coach. Great job, Dustin.
Chloee Sadlier and Krista Flint have done an amazing job in their first year as middle school girls’ wrestling coaches. The program has thrived under their leadership. By all accounts, they are great at what they do.
Special Education Department Shouts Out for the month:
2/3 Pod Case Manager Ashley Robbins is a complete rock star teacher! She is providing services for a large caseload and has to deal with the highest number or referrals. She balances all of this, while teaching students for a good portion of the day, with a smile and positive attitude. I watched her handle, what could have been a tense parent meeting, with absolute professionalism and calm, positive poise. If that parent doesn't understand now how lucky they are to have Mrs. Robbins teaching their student... they will. I observe her classroom the day afterwards, and as I consistently observe- her teaching was well-planned, engaging, appropriately aligned to standards and most of all... FUN! Her students absolutely love her! Our district is fortunate to have her serving our students!
Thanks to Mr. Carr, Mrs. Bird and Mrs. Bugas for taking time out of their personal lives and schedules to help sponsor and chaperone the HS winter formal dance. It's cool to see veteran teachers and admin still taking time out of their lives to do this. It show their core interest is students, and that's awesome!
MVHS wants to congratulate senior Garrett Redden for his selection to the interview stage of the University of Wyoming Trustees Scholarship. Garrett has gone through a rigorous selection process through the Trustees Scholarship to make it to this point of the in-person interview process. Garrett is an excellent student, an strong example of our school as a student-athlete, and - more importantly - is an amazing young man. As a school and district we are proud of Garrett and wish him good luck on his interview in Laramie this week. Garrett is also a finalist for the US Presidential Scholars Program this year.
MVHS wants to thank teachers and other staff who took students to Beaver Mountain for our first ever large group ski trip. This trip has been an outcome of a combined effort of Mrs. Moretti and Mrs. Anderson who began taking students on fall hikes and winter cross country trips in the Uinta Mountains to help our students better appreciate the Wyoming outdoors. This year Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Moretti were assisted by para-professional Trystin Walker, SPED Director Shad Hamilton, and English teacher Mandy Tinker to make sure our Advanced PE, Female Strength and Conditioning, and Environmental Science students have a positive experience up on the mountain. Thanks to all these staff members for going the extra "run" for our students.
Congratulations to MVHS junior Brayston Bentley. Brayston went through an arduous audition process to be selected for All-State Orchestra. Over 1500 students in Wyoming auditioned for All-State Orchestra and fewer than 300 were selected and Brayston was one of them. Not only that, but MVHS doesn't even have an orchestra program! Those students selected rehearsed for six hours a day at the Wyoming All State Music event in order to be ready for the All-State Orchestra concert. What an honor for Brayston as he doesn't have the benefit of a whole ensemble to practice with. Thanks also to Mrs. Tinker for rehearsing with Brayston on the violin and for Mrs. Phillips for helping Brayston navigate the audition, travel, and rehearsal process!
Special Education Department Shouts Out for the month:
Lucy Lyman: I wanted to take a little time to recognize Lucy for her services with our EL students this year. We are fortunate to have a para with her abilities working in our district. What's even more admirable is her willingness and flexibility to help students wherever it's needed. After our EL students got their footing and less support was needed, she was totally on board shifting over to the K-1 Pod, where an increase in IEP students resulted in a need for more help for writing and reading. She accepted all of these assignments without any concerns or issues. Her respectful, student centered approach to work makes her a pleasure to work with. Thanks for everything that you've done for our students this year Lucy... so far! Awesome Work!
Bart Lyman: I'd like to thank Bart Lyman for his excellent work as a school psychologist in our district so far this year. His consistent attendance has created greater stability in the services we're able to provide students. Bart's calm, friendly, positive demeanor makes it easy for staff, parents and students to work with. His leadership with the related services crew and establishing a weekly Monday PLC group has helped immensely to keep our evaluations on track and consistent. Bart's participation on some of our more challenging IEP teams has made a positive impact. All of this good, hard work equals improved, quality special education services for our students. Thanks!
Congratulations to MVHS counselor Stormy Hauf for being recognized as the Wyoming Admissions Officers 2025 Counselor of the Year! The WAO states that Mrs. Hauf’s “hard work, compassion, and leadership have had a profound impact” on MVHS students, and this is definitely the case. The WAO also says that this award reflects, "Mrs. Hauf’s outstanding dedication, invaluable contributions, and the success of the students she serves." Thank you Mrs. Hauf! Well deserved! We are so proud to have you in Buffalo-ville!
MVE would like to recognize Kayleigh Bluemel and Caleb Larsen, along with all of our 1st and 2nd Grade students, for putting together two awesome music programs to kick off our programs in the elementary. It is amazing the amount of time and effort that has to go into this to put put on a 20 minute performance. Students have been singing and learning Christmas songs since September! Both performances were a lot of fun!
They did it again! Congratulations to our Student Council and sponsor Colette Bugas for once again achieving the recognition from the Wyoming Association of Student Councils of “Honor Council with Meritorious Distinction”. Additionally, Elli Linford was recognized as the student council’s “Hidden Hero” and Avery Rees received an important honor as one of only 15 students to be recognized as All-State Student Council.
This month, the spotlight will shine upon Brad Moosman and our newly-started Trout in the Classroom program. We also recognize McKashyn Salsbury for her selection to and participation in the National FFA choir.
Special Education Department Shout Out for the month:
Matt Clark: A few weeks ago I was very impressed with your input and feedback related to some three year assessment for an upcoming high school student. I think your understanding and analysis of assessment data reflects your experience and translates to better services for students. I also continue to be very thankful for how flexible and willing you are to take on and accommodate for unusual situations and cases. Recently we had a parent request to change case managers and you accepted the change without hesitancy or argument. You've employed that attitude with our two EL students as well. Your work with all of these students is thoughtful and quality. Thank you for going the extra mile for our students!
Sandra Morrigan: I wanted to take some time and thank you for all of your hard work thus far learning the job and demands of a special education school counselor. It's hard for most of us to comprehend what it's like making the shift from your previous employer to a school. I sure appreciate your willingness to climb this mountain. I appreciate your contribution and participation in the counselor CLTs and with our most recent threat assessments training. I also appreciate the communications we had as you learn the ins and outs of IEP writing. I appreciate your willingness to take my feedback and direction, and the help of others. I look forward to working with you and seeing your relations with staff and students grow in the coming year. Your work is meaningful and it is having a positive impact on students! Thanks!
One of our Activity Drivers, Angie Pitts, has been putting on the road miles during a season many would say is the "quiet time" for student travel. Recently Angie took a trip on short notice to deliver some students to Casper and then turned right around to go home that evening so she could take a trip the next morning! Instead of staying the night and trying to get a good night of sleep, Angie dropped off the students and wanted to be able to drive the next morning. Real dedication and service to our students. Thank you, Angie!
Recently, five MVHS students participated in the WHSAA Student Leadership Summit. This used to be the State Sportsmanship Summit, but MVHS had so many students who were involved in our student sportsmanship committee who wanted to attend that we had to have a separate application process for students to attend this event in Casper. These students worked with members of the WHSAA Student Advisory Council to advance their own leadership skills and represent MVHS at a state level training specifically for students. The work at this student leadership summit dovetails perfectly with some of the work being done with our own Student Sportsmanship Committee. Thanks to Chad Whitworth at WHSAA for coordinating this event and to Race Carr, Colt Madsen, Jocelyn Roberts, Ellie Stoddard, and Colter Tims for their attendance at this year's event.
MVE would like to recognize Lisa Proctor, Tami Stoddard, and Angie Martin for putting together our K/1, and 4/5 pod Title I family nights. These take a lot of time and preparation. Both of these nights ended up being in November (one due to a weather caused cancellation in October). We had 180 in attendance for the 4/5 pod family night, and over 220 for our K/1 pod family night. These teachers put in a lot of time prepping for various activities and ensuring we have good quality books for our students to choose as part of the night as well. All of our teachers pitched in and helped with the activities and centers.
This month's spotlight will shine upon the teachers (Alle Brown, Cami Brown, Sarah Butters, Anna Deru, Annie Hadley, Jenny Jackman, Angie Martin, Stacey Morrison, Lisa Proctor, Jenilee Schwartz, Tami Stoddard, Megan Stuehm, Amy Thompson, Natalie Walk and Milly Webb) who voluntarily completed a very intense LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) training. They chose to complete this training without any prodding, which speaks to their absolute professionalism and desire to improve themselves for the sake of our students. This training was done on their own time and took over a year to complete.
The LETRS training focuses on comprehensive professional learning designed to provide early childhood and elementary educators to be literacy and language experts in the science of reading. LETRS teaches the skills needed to master the foundational and fundamentals of reading and writing instruction—phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language.
Special Education Department Shout Out for the month:
Veronica Callister: Thank you for your recent communication with one of our parents. Though you were communicating a behavior concern (reteach), your communication was positive and well received by the parents. Your follow-up responses were also professional, to the point and positive. Additionally, when I visited with you a few weeks ago and you showed me how you were tracking accommodations I was impressed. Thank you for taking the time and putting in the extra work that you have been. In the end I think it translates to improved positive relations an increased student achievement. Great work! Thanks!
Kirsten Bird: A couple of weeks ago you stopped by my office with a question about sending some positive communication home to parents about a student in your class. I was impressed that you were taking the time to do it. I'm not sure if you actually did it, but I was most impressed that you were having a positive experience with the student and that you were willing to share that news with their parents. Thank you for taking the time to visit with me about the student. It's positive thinking and mindsets like this that really help to make school a positive, productive environment for students. Thanks!
MVMS would to thank Bobi Page and Kirsten Bird for taking our middle school FCCLA student to Casper for the FCCLA Fall Conference. This is a great experience for our students and helps to prepare them for the upcoming State Conference in March. The Fall Conference has provided so many learning opportunities for our students in the past and we appreciate Bobi and Kirsten's willingness to make this trip happen, especially since it's done all in one very, very long day.! Thank you for the dedication and commitment to our students.
MVHS shines a spotlight on our fall sports athletes and coaches. As we head toward the end of our culminating events, we are reminded of the extra effort our athletes put into school and sports each day. This is borne out by the EXCELLENT grades of our students involved in fall sports. (We do activities like Band, Choir, FFA, FCCLA in the spring since they are year-long activities.) Great job to all of our fall athletes.
Volleyball: 3.81 gpa
Cross Country: 3.80 gpa
Cheer: 3.66 gpa
Football: 3.33 gpa
MVHS also recognizes the efforts of MVHS counselor Stormy Hauf. Mrs. Hauf's duties sometimes appear endless. This month she chaperoned students to WWCC for a manufacturing days presentation, coordinated the Senior Class retake of the ACT, and is one person in our building who is ALWAYS on call. She gives sage counsel to students as they prepare for college, need a class schedule change, or are just having a rough day. Mrs. Hauf balances caring and empathy with her common sense to help students continue to build those necessary skills in high school that will serve them well later in life. Thank you, Mrs. Hauf!
The spotlight will shine upon Clay Hysell, Deb Smith and Luke Meeks for the amazing work they do for staff members and students alike. Just as impressive as their extensive knowledge of technology is their approachability and patience that they demonstrate each and every day working with staff members. These three “back of house” people keep our entire district wired and ready to go, being student-centered, laser-focused, and so, so, so knowledgeable about keeping our district running and our tech needs met. Their combined experience benefits our students, our staff, and our community. Thank you!
MVHS would like to thank Brian Deru and Carmen Erickson with the UCSD #4 Transportation Department. Brian and Carmen provide meaningful opportunities in the form of unique work experience opportunties for some of our students. They excel at working with students and giving them an opportunity that these students really may not get anywhere else. Brian and Carmen have the skills and personality to work with students and put them in positions to be successful. It can be a thankless job at times to be in a school's transportation department and for them to take on the responsibility of giving students these unique opportunities is truly appreciated.
MVHS also appreciates the hard work and exceptional effort on the part of the MVHS Student Council and advisor Colette Bugas for their hard work thoughout Homecoming Week. It was a week of full events with a parade and a bonfire and Homecoming royalty. Mrs. Bugas and the student council take a special kind of pride in having such an awesome week of events that involves so many students. Thank you to everyone involved in making Homecoming such a special week.
MVMS would like to thank Coach Lym and Moretti for taking the time to show students that physical activity is more than just units of instruction inside the gym. It can also be daily activities like hiking. The 8th grade students learned about this first hand with their annaul hike to Alligator Lake. We are blessed to live in a location that allows our students to get out and enjoy nature. Thank you taking the time to show our students just how great of a place we live in.
This month's spotlight will shine upon the Maintenance Crew for the great work they did while completing the K-8 Culinary Water Boiler Project in-house. The only company to submit a bid on this project submitted a bid significantly higher than than the engineer’s estimate, and the bid was rejected. Thanks to Maintenance Supervisor Bob Alvis and his crew’s willingness to tackle this project themselves, the project is now successfully complete. Their skills and work ethic in this regard is greatly appreciated. Thank you to Bob Alvis, Monte Bernard, Skye Brandon and Vaughn Hurdsman. Great work!
Special Education Department Shout Out for the month!:
Kim Williamson: We know you had to make some significant personal time sacrifices in order for us to have a student's three hour IEP meeting on Monday, August 19th. We understand that when asked you to do, that it was asking a lot. We really appreciate your cooperation though, and willingness to help. Your willingness to help us out and attend that day made it possible for the team to complete the IEP before school started and we believe the student has benefited from the new IEP this week. Your testimony during the IEP meeting was also very helpful to the work of the IEP team in developing more appropriate accommodations. Thanks for going the extra mile for this student!
Brent Walk: Starting the week off last week with a three hour IEP meeting following by several days of trying to write a complicated IEP and complex PWN so that a student could start school with a plan that would benefit them the most, was quite a challenge to balance in between the first week of practice- two a days to boot. I wanted to let you know that we recognized the extra stress and time it took for you to help us with this last week. In the end, I think it made a difference for the student. Their first week back seemed to go well! Thanks for, once again, go the extra mile to help students!
Alle Brown: It's been a pleasure working with you this week as you begin to learn your new job as a special education case manager for the K-1 students. I've been impressed with how you reached out to Geraldine and sought our advice and assistance with how to handle the new incoming IEPs. Your attitude around seeking out advice and help from everyone, though stressful at times, I think is a commendable approach to learning a new job. The coursework you've completed towards the special education endorsement over the summer and your help with ESY this summer shows how dedicated you are to really offering students the highest quality of services. The patience you've employed with all of the staff excited to help you in your new position has been noted as well. You're off to a great start! Thanks for taking this responsibility on full throttle!
The spotlight shines upon the amazing teachers we have in Uinta 4. We want to extend our gratitude to all teachers for their dedication and the countless extra hours they invest beyond the classroom during summer break. Your commitment to taking students to summer camps, summer conferences, continuing your own education, and volunteering in the community is simply amazing. This effort and dedication is often unseen and underappreciated, but certainly has a positive impact on our students and the entire community. Thank you for going above and beyond, inspiring us all with your selflessness and devotion.
Congratulations to the MVHS Student Council who was recognized this month by the Wyoming Association of Student Councils as the Student Council of the Month. Our MVHS Student Leadership Team was recognized for their efforts during the Make-A-Wish fundraiser where the student council met their fundraising goal of $1,000 as well as for student efforts for the Random Acts of Kindness Bingo. This is an awesome recognition for our students who consistently make efforts to be involved in things that are bigger than themselves. At the end of the school year, the student council also coordinated fundraising efforts to support Lifting Hands, International where our students - in less than a week - raised over $500 to support that organization that supports refugees across the world.
MVHS would also like to recognize the efforts of our students AND staff in finishing the school year strong. Numerous students raised grades - with the support of teachers around the building - and put themselves in a position to be both academically eligible and retain credit. MVHS finished the semester with only two students receiving a failing grade in any class. This is so impressive and speaks to the care and concern that our staff has for students and that they want students to earn that credit and stay on track for graduation. So impressive!
We want to be sure and recognize the efforts of our students involved in year-long activities as well as our athletes. This year (once again) each of our athletic and activity programs at MVHS has been recognized by the WHSAA as either Distinguished or Outstanding based on the average grade point average of the participants. At the end of each sports season we recognize our athletes for their academic efforts, but it is important that we remember we have many, many students involved in year-long activities who are excelling in the classroom and with their activity as well. Congratulations to these students and to their activity advisors as well.
WHSAA Outstanding (3.5 - 4.0): Academic Challenge: 3.78, Student Council: 3.76, Band: 3.71, FCCLA:3.67, Art Underground: 3.53, Choir: 3.51
WHSAA Distinguished (3.0 - 3.5): FFA: 3.47, Guitar: 3.39
UCSD #4 Special Education Director Staff Recognition:
Brittney Deckert, Linda Newton and Colette Bugas: I was super thrilled to see the announcements and notices about the additional after school help, tutoring and instruction you're providing for students this spring. I'm optimistic you are working together to help provide our SPED and more at-risk students a meaningful opportunity to improve relations and grow within your classes. I understand the extra time, work and effort the duty entails. I also understand the sacrifice you're making towards your personal time in order to help provide this for students. I appreciate your collective dedication towards helping students learn and grow by offering this opportunity for them. Thank you for taking the time to offer this. Great work!
Lori Erickson, Stacey Morrison and Milly Webb: Thanks a ton for stepping up to take on our ESY needs this summer. All of these duties require some time during the summer, away from family. I understand the sacrifices you're making to help our students grow. Your willingness to help teach our students over the summer should help them find success in school next year. Your commitment to helping our students is awesome! I appreciate your good, hard, positive work very much. THANK YOU!
UCSD #4 Special Education Director Staff Recognition:
Matt Clark: Thanks for getting all of your para evals done ahead of time. Your evals were amongst the first to arrive. I appreciate the extra time and effort you made to do this. I also appreciate your willingness to take on the work experience program for our 8th graders again this year. I know that takes a little time out of your summer, but it really means a great deal to our students and parents. Thanks for going the extra miles! I appreciate it!
Ashley Robbins and Alle Brown: Thanks a ton for stepping up to take on our 2nd-5th ESY needs this summer. All of the old guard kept telling me, "Good luck with summer/ ESY school, nobody wants to do that anymore." I was super excited to hear that Ashley was thinking about it. When I heard you both committed it made me very proud to see that our SPED Dept still rocks and cares deeply about the success of students. I also understand you are considering the WDE new teacher boot camp. All of these duties require some time during the summer, away from family. I understand the sacrifices you're making to help our students grow. I appreciate your good, hard, positive work very much. THANK YOU!
Bart Lyman and Dan Mayer (BOCES): I wanted to take some time and thank you for your work last week and this week and your commitment to helping UCSD #4 in a time of great need. I don't think I've even had time to talk with Dan, because he's been with students every time I've seen him. Bart's willingness to step into one of our most challenging IEP teams has been super helpful too. I understand the sudden nature of our need probably caused some stress and created some additional inconveniences that you both had to make sacrifices for. However, I think your work will have a positive impact on our students and their ability to grow. I wanted you to know how much I appreciate this. Thanks for your help!
This month, we spotlight the maintenance crew at the Town of Mountain View for the many times they have provided assistance to the school district. They are great teammates. Representatives from the Town of Mountain View were on hand at the board meeting to be celebrated for the strong partnership between the schools and town. The people at the Town, from the secretary through the mayor, are always willing to step up in their support of students. From snow removal to loaning of equipment, the town and UCSD #4 continue to be great partners.
April is Prom season and this weekend's prom and floorshow did not disappoint. Many thanks to the students, parents, and staff who help make prom the special event that it is. The Mountain View community is supportive of all things MVHS, but especially our prom and floor show. Traditions are worth keeping and the Mountain View Prom is no exception. Special thanks to junior class advisors Brittney Deckert and Michael Collins for their work long beyond their regular work schedule to keep prom a reality. And also a thanks to the choreographer of the floor show, Chelsea Brunski, for her willingness to corral 50 or so teenagers into their floor show event. Thanks to all, especially our students!
On Monday, April 8, the MVHS chapter of National Honor Society inducted 34 new sophomore members. These newly inducted members of this prestigious group complement the other 60(!) members of NHS. 28 NHS seniors will be graduating this spring proudly wearing the gold stoll with their graduation gown showing their committment to the four pillars of NHS: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. Thanks to Mrs. Christopher in her role as NHS advisor where she coordinates important learning and service opportunities for our highest achieving students.
Congratulations to Mountain View Middle School Principal Tarl Van Dusen for his selection as the Wyoming Art Education Association’s Art Educator of the Year Award Recipient for Administrators for his support as a supervisor of art teachers and art programs. This award was given at a reception in Casper at the Nicolaysen Art Museum during the WYAEA Spring Conference on March 3rd.
UCSD #4 Special Education Director Staff Recognition:
IEP Team Members Tarl Van Dusen, Kim Stephens, Andrea Dolezal, Tae Colbert, and Brent Walk: I wanted to take a minute and recognize this IEP team in front of the entire district for their work with a particular case this year, so far. They've had nine IEP meetings and two other meetings for a case so far this year. A few of the meetings have gone for over two hours and have been tense. This entire team agreed to meet, and did meet, at 6AM recently to accommodate for parents that could not take time off. Throughout all of these meetings every team member has listened and maintained patience, professionalism, and a student centered focus. Parent advocates, Consults, Specialists, Attorneys, and WDE staff all have expressed at different times how impressed they've been with this team. As a result of their hard work, the student is still in school, attending and achieving at a higher level than they ever have. Their hard work is having a positive impact on the student. I believe they have the support and thanks of the entire UCSD #4 District.
Annie, Kim, Stacey, Megan and Marlene: I wanted to take a little time and say thank you for helping with the BVE Coalition Family Night last night. I know that took time away from your personal and family time. However your commitment to going the extra mile for students was evident to many parents and students as they visited your booth. In the end, the activity resulted in additional students being identified for kindergarten. The earlier we can get students and parents identified and engaged in our district, the earlier we can start meeting their educational needs. Thanks for helping with this last night. You all help make UCSD #4 an excellent school district!
MVHS would like to thank our three teachers who each teach a section of freshman Speech and Reading. These teachers once again put together an awesome display of the public speaking and presentation skills of our 9th grade students at the 2024 Annual Speech Showcase on Monday, March 25. Mrs. Deckert, Mrs. Christopher, and Mrs. Tinker continue to provide meaningful opportunities for students to deliver informative speeches, interpret literature (including poetry), and have group interpretations of popular literature. The effort and hard work of over 20 of our 9th grade students was on full display at this year's Speech Showcase. Thank you to these staff members and to all of the students who participated as speakers or by providing an introduction. Great job to everyone involved!
MVHS would also like to recognize all of the participants in winter sports this year. Every single winter sports program has been recognized by the WHSAA as either Distinguished or Outstanding due to their combined average grade point average. These academic scores are a compliment to the student-athletes and also their coaches for their consistent focus on taking care of things in the classroom at the highest level:
Outstanding (Greater than 3.5): Girls Basketball: 3.81, Boys and Girls Indoor Track: 3.64, Cheer: 3.52, Boys Basketball: 3.51
Distinguished (Greater than 3.0): Boys and Girls Wrestling: 3.27
UCSD #4 Special Education Director Staff Recognition:
Jolene Schnackenberg: I wanted to thank you for querying the data from PowerSchool that I requested about IEP students that had been retained over the last 10 years and had dropped out of school. I know this request took some time. I appreciate how quickly you were able to get it and then how thoroughly you disaggregated it. I also appreciate your willingness to meet with me and explain it all. I'm happy to report to the admin team that, in the end, there really have been zero IEP students that were retained that have dropped out of school in UCSD #4. I think this is quite a testament to the support services provided through the UCSD #4. Very impressive! I'll share the data with you all when it's my turn again at our admin meetings. Thanks again Jolene for taking the extra time to look into this for me. Great work!
Tarl/ Kim/ Kelsey: This week hasn't been easy. In my twenty plus years of working with at-risk low SES populations I've had my fair share of student tragedies to navigate. I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated the work you've done, and will do, to help our students get through this. The fact that one of our student's mother came to Tarl for support and advice about how to break the news to her son is such a HUGE testament to positive relations you build with students and parents. I wanted to let you know that I saw this. I know the extra time, stress, hours you've put in this week. I see the weight you bear for students, parents and the community. I really appreciate it! THANK YOU!!
MVHS says CONGRATULATIONS to the four seniors of the Class of 2024 who have been awarded the esteemed University of Wyoming Trustees Scholarship. This is a "full ride" scholarship to the University of Wyoming for these seniors and will surely set them on a path of giving back to their community! Congratulations to Spencer Erickson, Bridger Lake, Ali Sibert, and Kate Walker. The four of you make MVHS proud. This year for the students across Wyoming recognized as Trustees Scholars the average GPA is 3.97 and these students have an average composite ACT score of 32. Students had a rigorous application process including online and in-person interviews before being selected as a Trustees Scholar.
MVHS would also like to congratulate our Cheer Squad for their EXCELLENT performance at the Wyoming State Cheer Championships. This crew of hardworking girls brought home the 3A Game Day State Cheer Championship. This is the third year in a row that the cheer team has won the Game Day event and the eighth consecutive cheer championship for the MVHS cheer squad. Simply amazing. They truly are "Second to None!"
This month, the spotlight shines upon 2nd graders who attended the monthly school board meeting to show their appreciation to school board members for the work they do to support our schools. Kelsey Van Dusen coordinated the effort.
MVHS would like to congratulate the entire cast and crew of the recent musical production of Beauty and the Beast, Jr. On January 10, the MVHS Choir under the direction of teacher Kayleigh Bluemel saw months of hard work come to fruition with a matinee performance on January 10 for all the second through fifth graders in the district, and then the entire crew put together an evening performance open to the public. It was a true showcase of student talent and hard work. Every member of the cast and crew was spot on with their skills and talents and their hard work showed through to the whole community. Great job to all!
UCSD #4 Special Education Director Staff Recognition:
Amie Antonino: I recently learned about your willingness to help learn and provide transportation services for one of our students in lieu of some staff shortages. I understand the duty might present some inconveniences, however I respect your willingness to take these on, in an effort to help us better provide consistent services for our students. Having your help with this duty will ultimately translate to increased learning and growth for students. Thank you for helping with this!
Ashley Robbins: I wanted to let you know how impressed I've been with how you've handled some of the recent challenges that have come our way with 2/3rd grade cases. Your timeliness with coordinating meetings, communicating with staff and parents has been excellent. Your professionalism around some of the interesting staff dynamics that have come to light has also been commendable. Your willingness to accept feedback and directions from team members makes it easy to work with you. You're doing a great job this year. Keep up the good work!
Colette Bugas: While meeting with Mr. Carr, he informed me how impressed he was with you in a meeting with a student and a parent who were considering dropping out of school. Mr. Carr said it was very clear that the positive, caring relationship you have forged with the student and the parent made all of the difference in persuading them to reconsider and stick with high school. As an administrator, I always love it when other administrators tell me how awesome my staff is. Thanks for being awesome today! Great work!!
Congratulations to the MVHS Student Council that was recognized at the State Student Council Summit as a "Student Council with Meritorious Distinction." This process for a student council to apply and meet all the criteria for this designation is rigorous and time consuming, yet our students have done it the last five years! What an honor to be led and served by this group of students. Fewer than 10 schools in the state of Wyoming received this recognition. Well done!
One component of being a Student Council with Meritorious Distinction is the student council advisor has to be on her toes to be sure all of the components are met in this process and this often begins in the springtime, long before State Student Council. Well MVHS is lucky enough to have a Student Council Advisor who was recognized by her peers with the Jeannie Tinnen Advisor of the Year Award. Congratulations to Mrs. Colette Bugas for her hard work and this special recognition.
In other Student Council news: Mckynleigh Barney received the MVHS Student Council's Hidden Hero Award. Thank you for all that you do, McKynleigh. She is dedicated to improving the lives of those around her. And another congratulations to Noell Kaiser as she was chosen as a Wyoming Association of Student Council's All-State recipient. Only 12 students from across the state earn this distinguished award.
MVHS is also proud of Diana Tims who was recognized as the 3A Volleyball Coach of the Year. And, for the first time, assistant volleyball coach Jessica Anderson was recognized as the Assistant Volleyball Coach of the Year! Congratulations and thank you both for your hard work for our students.
This month’s Spotlight shines upon teachers Colette Bugas and Linda Newton for being selected as Mentors of the Year by the DisAbility IN: Uinta County organization. Colette and Linda have been helping MVHS students transition successfully from high school to the work force, trade school and college for 25 years now. Congratulations and thank you to Colette and Linda.
Congratulations to our State Champion Volleyball Team. Mr. Newton and the board recognized the consistency and effort of the volleyball team, particularly over the last four years where the team has played in the last four WHSAA 3A State Championship games, winning three of those games, including the last two championships. Thank you coaches, families, players, and especially our seniors.
MVE would like to thank Mr. Madsen and all of our staff who helped organize our 11th annual Turkey Trot. This is a great event that is educational, but also gives us a chance to donate food items to our local food pantry. We also want to recognize our 3rd-5th grade students who participated. Running the mile on a cold day is not easy, and all gave their best! Great job to all!
UCSD #4 Special Education Director Staff Recognition for November (so far):
Kara Olson (HS Sped para) - Thanks for being willing to help us with some student transportation needs this fall. The staff involved in the case have all spoken very highly of your ability to step in, work with the student and help ensure they have safe transportation to Hayden Peak. I understand the duty came up sudden and was probably a disruption to your regular routine. I appreciate your flexibility in accommodating our students' needs this way. Through this case I've learned that you are committed to students and your work has a positive impact on our students.
Sarah Walker (HS Sped para) - Thanks for being willing to help us with some student transportation needs this fall. The staff involved in the case appreciate your ability to step in, work with the student and help ensure they have safe transportation to Hayden Peak. I understand the duty came up sudden and was probably a disruption to your regular routine. I appreciate your flexibility in accommodating our students' needs this way. Through this case I've learned that you are committed to students and your work has a positive impact on our students.
Andrea Dolezal/ Chary Porter (Middle School) - Thanks for inviting me to observe the gallery walk writing lesson in your classroom last week. Gallery walks are a great way to get kids up, moving and engaged. Each small group seemed engaged in the work that you wanted them to do. It was great for me to see how effective paras support services are for students. I saw Chary actively engaged with students during the lesson - supporting the learning and their needs related to it. It's obvious that you both put some thought and planning into the lesson. I'm confident our students' growth and progress will be positive under your cooperative support and instruction. Thanks for inviting me to observe.
Sala Condos (Middle School Secretary) - Thanks for helping us out in Krista's absence last week. I know that you had to field several negative phone calls from a challenging parent of ours. I know how stressful that can be. Thank you for doing this and doing a professional job with it! Also - thanks a ton for being the point on the collection and ordering of flowers for Krista. I know that added a little to your plate that day, but I really appreciate the help with it. Your efforts help put our staff in the right state of mind to make a positive difference for students.
Gayle Martin and Kelly Anderson (K-1 Sped Paras) - Recently it was brought to my attention that you both have continued the work towards the RBT certification that you started last year. On your own time, without anyone asking, you have completed course modules each month this fall. Although we compensate you for this work, I still think that your commitment to do it is impressive. I know you both have to take time away from personal obligations to do this. I know that the learning you are doing, you will and have applied to your job, which will help our students learn and grow more. You are making a positive impact on students in our district. Keep up the great work!
Lori Jensen (Middle School) - Yesterday I noticed that, although you were scheduled to take leave, you stuck around to make sure your students got off to a positive start with your substitute. Many teachers would have just left. You went the extra mile recognizing there were a lot of subs and your extra 5-10 minutes getting students settled down and working could make a huge difference for the substitutes and the students. It's obvious you care very much about your students and their success. You are willing to sacrifice your personal time to help them find success. In my mind, it's the little things like this that make a huge difference for students. Thanks for going the extra mile!
October's district spotlight shines upon Susan Anderson and Sarah Butters as members of the Wyoming Teacher- Mentor Corps. Both Sarah and Susan were nominated and selected for this role and are participating in this program voluntarily, which involves a good amounts of their personal time, including time in the summer. The program is sponsored by the University of Wyoming and is designed to develop mentors to support emerging teachers during the pre-service or induction phases.
MVHS would like to recognize the efforts of our school counselor, Mrs. Stormy Hauf. The beginning of the school year can be a challenge, and Mrs. Hauf handles registration, schedule changes, and working with students with a genuine enthusiasm for doing what is right for students. And in October, Mrs. Hauf is coordinating ASVAB testing for juniors and an ACT retake opportunity for seniors as well as a nationwide ACT testing date here at MVHS. Mrs. Hauf has a real impact on the positive culture of MVHS and she works to make it a place where students learn and where they are safe. Thank you Mrs. Hauf for your hard work behind the scenes in making MVHS a great place to learn!
MVHS would also like to thank a substitute on long assignment here at MVHS: Mrs. Mindi Mills! Working as a substitute teacher brings many challenges, but Mrs. Mills comes in to a very dynamic environment in English 11 and is helping students every day. She is engaging with students; she communicates with parents; she is a hard worker who takes her role in helping students learn very seriously. On several occasions, Mrs. Mills has said, "This is what I do; I help kids." She has the heart of a true teacher and is a valuable member of our staff while she covers Mrs. Christopher's classroom. Thank you, Mrs. Mills!
UCSD #4 Special Education Director Staff Recognition for October (so far):
Andrea Dolezal: Your work as a teacher and a parent this week in our district has impressed me. Thank you for taking time out of your personal schedule Wednesday evening to present to our Special Education Parent group. Your presentation was well thought out. Your willingness to share the presentation will benefit other parents. Thank you for your participation and leadership with this group. I witnessed firsthand this week how your consistent practice of emailing and communicating achievement milestones in your reading class promotes positive parent relationships. For many parents your emails may be some of the only positive communication they receive from the school. I know that students and parents really appreciate this. I also know that it helps foster positive, productive relationships which will be very helpful for the IEP teams you serve on. I know this is extra work on your behalf, but I really think it is an excellent example for all teachers and administrators to follow. Our staff, parents and students benefit from this work. Thank you!
Chris Stoddard: I wanted to take some time to thank you this week for your work in helping the family that has students identified under the McKinney-Vento act. Your communication with them has been excellent and your work to help provide them with warmer winter clothing very timely. I'm glad to hear that they were appreciative. It's also good to hear their situation may be improving. Your help on the IEP team for a student this week was also very important. Reaching out to the other health related service provider and being able to determine factually what was being provided and accomplished with the student and family was super helpful and will be moving forward with the case. The work that you do helps to remove barriers to learning for students and promotes growth for them. Awesome work! Thanks!
Brent Walk: In the short time that I have worked with you I have come to recognize your ability to form positive relationships with challenging students and parents is invaluable to the district, the special education department and the middle school team. I've known you to be a strong coach for quite some time, but I've also known a lot of coaches that were not good educators. In the last month I've watched you lead hard, yet productive, conversations with parents and students that have ultimately led to their students' overall ability to improve their learning. Your heart and passion for helping students as a teacher is every bit as apparent as your passion for coaching. I know your work with staff, parents and students helps to make them better. Thanks!
Tae Colbert: I wanted to take a moment and thank you for your work this week. I know that your time on-site, in our school this week was not necessarily contracted. I understand that you took the time to get here, meet with students and participate in IEP meetings because you care about the teachers, students and parents in our district. The positive relationships you have developed with challenging students and parents proved to be very helpful in a recent IEP meeting. Through the trust you have built with the family, and your leadership, we were able to come to a team consensus around some changes in the IEP. Your help and work with our students and families are having a positive impact. Thanks!
Bonnie Rudy: I really appreciate the help and work you've invested in one of our cases this week. The time you spent with Christine Manning and your willingness to work with her to help establish a safe transportation routine for the student has been excellent. Your friendly, personable nature makes it a joy to have you on any team. I really appreciate your sense of urgency and knowledge of special education law with the case this week. Thank you for having the confidence to express your concerns and keep the team moving forward. I'm looking forward to your work with Mr. Clark, paras, drivers and Christine Manning as we attempt to get a student back into a safe, consistent, routine for school. Your work has a positive impact on our students and staff! Thank you!
Ashley Robbins: Thank you for taking the time to schedule the pre-conference and observation this week. Thus far your initiative to meet deadlines and get things done has been excellent. It was an absolute pleasure watching you teach this week. It is clear that you are an experienced teacher. Your lesson was well planned. You transitioned efficiently through three activities that incorporated three different learning modalities with ease. Your students were obviously well trained as to your expectations and the routines in your classroom. Your relationships with the students were caring, yet professional. They love you, but they also know you when it's business time. I think the 2-3 Pod is lucky to have you. I'm looking forward to future observations. I know that your work with our students and staff will have a positive, meaningful impact and lead to growth. Keep up the great work!
MVE would like to recognize Lisa Proctor, Tami Stoddard, and Angi Martin who helped organize or first Title I Family Night of the year for our 4th and 5th graders and their families. The theme was glow in the dark, and students were able to participate in educational activities, have a treat, and each student received a book for their home libraries. Many students and families were in attendance, and all had fun. What a great event! Thanks for making this such a fun and educational night for our students!
This month's spotlight shines upon all Uinta 4 staff members for the systematic influence over many years which has resulted in MVHS attaining “Exceeding Expectations” on the Wyoming Accountability in Education Act School Report. We are one of only 10 high school to achieve this level!
MVHS would like to recognize all of the students holding class officer positions for the MVHS Student Council. This week's Homecoming events were well organized and set up for maximum fun for the students. Whether it was game night on Monday, Stud Volleyball on Tuesday, Kickball on Wednesday, or the parade on Friday, and dance on Saturday, Mountain View High School students do Homecoming right! It takes many hands for Homecoming week to come off as successfully as it does and the student council officers and their advisor, Mrs. Bugas deserves special recognition for their organization, communication, and hard work during all of the events.
UCSD #4 Special Education Director Staff Recognition for September:
Geraldine Schell: I wanted to take some time and thank you for your good hard work this week. I've stopped by almost every day this week and hit you with various questions and issues. You've always been happy to stop what you're working on to help me. I loved hearing about the interventions you've employed already with some of our new students. I can already tell that you are a valuable resource to the K-1 pod. I am really looking forward to seeing the growth of the students you serve this year. Thanks!
Krista Flint: It was pretty clear to me early on that you were very good at your job. I wanted to take a little time to thank you for your work the last few weeks though. As I'm learning the Sped process and all of the forms in Sped Advantage, I've been blown away at how efficient you are at keeping me and our case workers on track with everything. I've hit you with interruptions, questions and tasks all week and you've been happy to help me. I feel super fortunate to have you as our Sped Dept secretary, especially as a new director. Our department functions better with you at the helm and I know our students will grow because of it. Absolutely awesome work! Thanks!
Lori Jensen: In the two weeks I've worked here so far I've noticed that you are always out and about and supervising students in the morning. Your positive, friendly nature provides a warm welcome to students as they arrive. I've also noticed that you are the "go to" person for other sped teachers when they need help with the technical aspects of the IEP paperwork and meetings. I recently heard positive comments about an observation Tarl and Jeff did last week when you were co-teaching. I thought you did a great job with your transition meeting last week. I know you are a top-notch educator! We're fortunate to have you and I really appreciate how much you're willing to help us all. Our students and teachers are better because of you. Thanks!
Elizabeth Vitt: Thank you for taking the time and initiative to reach out to homeschool students and offer services. I believe your commitment here will eventually help these students stay in school and make more progress when they are here. Your willingness to take the lead on learning how to document the homeschool students with the private school form has been very helpful. Your expedient work with our EL student and screening them is appreciated as well. The work that you've saved me the last two weeks probably makes up for the time that you'll be in Italy. Honestly, I'm beginning to understand the trust and leadership you have with the related services department and our teachers as a whole. I'm excited to see you in action with students. I know they will grow because of your work! Thanks!
Lisa Jensen: I just wanted to say thanks! Thanks for taking the time to attend Dr. Peifer's case study session with me last Friday. I know you didn't have to do that. You might have even taken time out of your personal schedule for this. I appreciate that. Your feedback, engagement and questions in that session really impressed him. When he asked how our district stacks up with others in the state, I knew right away what he was thinking... He was thinking, "Are all of your teachers like this?" As you've transitioned into the 4th grade team I was impressed with your attitude and optimism around learning the new Voyager reading intervention program. I believe you are making a solid effort to integrate your experience and knowledge into this team. Thank you for the great work you are doing. I know that our students will grow and benefit from it!
The August Spotlight on Success shines on the staff of the Uinta 4 and 6 BOCES (a.k.a. Valley Learning Center). The crew there are such strong supporters of students and families and their work benefits the entire Bridger Valley community. Not all of them could make it to be recognized at the August 8 meeting of the Uinta 4 board of trustees, but Amy and Wendy were able to represent Holly and Jamie and hear the appreciation from Superintendent Newton and the board for their contributions and hard work. Thank you to the staff and board for the Uinta 4 and 6 BOCES.
MVHS would like to recognize Student Body President, McKynleigh Barney, for her presentation to parents at the Fall Sports parent and student meeting. McKynleigh presented to a large audience about the efforts of the MVHS Sportsmanship Committee over the last two years to keep good sportsmanship as a conversation among our students. McKynleigh attended the State Sportsmanship Summit last fall and has been a strong part of the Sportsmanship Committee and her leadership was on strong display as she explained to parents the purpose and activities of the Sportsmanship Committee.
The Mountain View High School staff is so appreciative of the hard work of our maintenance, custodial, and grounds crew. The work this team puts in over the course of the summer in order to have the building ready for students is daunting. They do it with a smile and they do a fantastic job of getting floors and classrooms ready as well as having our gyms and grounds ready for athletes. Thank you to this whole team!
The UCSD #4 Special Services Department would like to recognize Mr. Clark this month. Mr. Clark's work this summer has been incredible! Mr. Clark was observed out and about with the summer work crew supervising and working with them. He also had an unexpected hand in organizing and planning the changes resulting from the DVR director. Mr. Clark spent some time teaching/ providing services for ESY and his students this summer too. As the new Special Ed Director transitioned into the new position we've had some difficult cases where we have had to start having IEP meetings already. Mr. Clark's quick response to emails and texts, sometimes after hours, has really helped us to be able to move at a pace to be prepared for students when they return to school. We know Mr. Clark is spending time away from family to write the IEPS, PWNs and required Sped paperwork in a timely manner for these cases. His commitment and time with these cases will translate into well planned, organized and quality educational experiences for students. In the end, families and students benefit from the work Mr. Clark is doing. We are excited about the growth Mr. Clark's students will make this year. We wanted to let you know how much we appreciate the work you've done this summer!
As the new Special Education Director, I want to thank Mrs. Wentz for inviting me to come visit her classroom this summer and meet some of her students. As the new guy, that made me feel a little more comfortable. I also wanted to thank Mrs. Wentz for the extra time that she put in this summer helping me interview paras and make sure there were appropriate transportation schedules for some of our students transitioning to high school. I know this work required additional time away from her family and summer time. I believe Mrs. Wentz's prompt help and attention to the matter will translate into staff that are better trained and more prepared to meet the needs of students when school starts. I'm excited to work with Mrs. Wentz and see how her students progress this year.
In a recent special education staff meeting during a team building activity where I asked staff to tell us about one thing they were looking forward to for this school year, Amy Lansdowne responded by saying, "Easter, I just really like Easter and eggs and all of the games that go along with it!" or something to that effect. She made us laugh... or, well at least me. Thanks! When I visited Amy's room today as she was prepping it for next week her friendly, positive demeanor was awesome. She showed me the stage and other facilities she uses for her students. I can already tell that Amy's humor and positive, friendly qualities will help to put students at ease that might otherwise struggle with her content area (PE). I can see how students will love her class, just because they love you! I'm looking forward to working with you and seeing your students grow this year.
Linda Newton and Colette Bugas recently attended the professional development session on reading intervention with Dr. Kilpatrick. I attended part of it as well. Having spent a good chunk of my career at the secondary level... I was beginning to question what I had gotten into about halfway through Dr. Kilpatrick's presentation. I won't lie, it was a bit over my head. You can imagine my surprise when both Linda and Colette started asking for Dr. Kilpatrick's books and expressing enthusiasm and ideas about how they intended to use the training to improve the reading instruction and interventions at the high school level with students (who are struggling readers). I grew excited to help support their efforts with this and I'm confident students will benefit. Thank you for embracing Dr. Kilpatrick's training and working to put it to use to help our students! If you approach the rest of this year with this mindset—it's going to be one of your best years! It will have a positive impact on students.
This month we spotlight our Transportation Training Coordinator and Bus Driver, Carmen Erickson, for the excellence she demonstrated at the Wyoming Pupil Transportation Association's 2023 Wyoming School Bus Rodeo in Casper a few weeks ago. Out of 64 competitors, Carmen received 5th place in the Transit Class, completing a variety of specific tasks related to driving and safety challenges that complemented her skills and training as a bus driver. Great job, Carmen!! Carmen was joined in the spotlight at the July school board meeting by Transportation Director Brian Deru, accepting the district's thanks to the entire UCSD#4 Transportation Department for their hard work in driving our students!
June 2023
This month's Spotlight on Success shines upon all staff members, Board members, students and parents as another successful school year comes to an end. In times where more and more educators are either retiring or leaving the profession, it is always great to acknowledge how blessed we are to work in a community with so many outstanding parents, students, and fellow staff members. Many thanks to the Board for your continued support and leadership to make this success possible.
May 2023
Mountain View High School Principal, Ben Carr, was been named the 2023 Wyoming State Secondary Principal of the Year by the Wyoming Association of Secondary School Principals. Ben will join his fellow state principals of the year from across the country in October for consideration as 2023 National Principal of the Year. Congratulations, Principal Carr, for receiving this well-deserved award. The entire Uinta 4 community appreciates the great things that you do each day!
The Board of Trustees recognized students from Guitar, State Art, FFA, and FCCLA for their fine performances at their spring competitions and festivals.
In an effort to occasionally recognize community members, the district spotlighted Town of Mountain View Chief of Police, Officer Allister Bunch. He has been very engaged with the school district since he has arrived and is a real teammate of ours in every sense of the word.
April 2023
Jeff Newton, Uinta County School District #4 Superintendent, was awarded the Myron Basom Educational Leadership Award at the Wyoming Association of School Administrators Annual Awards Banquet in Casper last Thursday. The award is presented annually to a superintendent who has demonstrated the ability to positively impact education and who effectively exhibits true leadership characteristics. The leadership characteristics considered are the following: Instructional Leader, Empowerer of People, Manager of Resources, Board and Community Leader, Communicator, and Direction Setter. Congratulations, Superintendent Newton, for receiving this well-deserved award for your excellence demonstrated over the past fourteen years.
Thanks to Randi Egley for putting on an awesome art show with our 3rd through 8th grade students. Our students have talents in this area, and you were able to help them showcase this! Great job to all of our students as well for working so hard, and thinking outside the box to create such great pieces of work.
Bambie Argyle, Rhonda Behunin, Jim Hickey, Julie Hickey, Geri Nelson, Sherri Stucki, and Joe Webb were each recognized at the Chamber of Commerce awards luncheon for their many years of dedicated service to the students of UCSD#4, and the Bridger Valley. Their experience and expertise will be missed for sure.
March 2023
MVHS thanks Kim Tait in her role with us as librarian and leader of the yearbook publications team. Kim communicates well with students and parents and continues to work hard to put out a quality product. This upcoming yearbook is going to be a great one with several "blasts from the past" and she always works to honor the requests of parents. She works hard to include every student several times in the yearbook itself and for those she supervises she works to be sure they each have meaningful tasks and are a contributor to the end product. Thank you, Mrs. Tait!
Geri Nelson! It has been a pleasure working with you these past two years. Your work on interventions and Data-Based-Individualization has helped a significant number of students at Mountain View Elementary. Great job!
Thank you, Krista Flint! Taking over a new position with a steep learning curve is never easy. You have done a great job this year! Your hard work, willingness to help, and ability to build positive relationships are much appreciated.
February 2023
MVHS is proud to have two students qualify for All-State Choir. Congratulations to juniors Kate Walker and Gaven Norris. These students also qualified for the prestigious All Northwest choir in Bellevue, Washington later this month. Gaven Norris also recently participated in the Wyoming All-State Jazz Ensemble in Casper, where he was one of only five bass singers selected from across the state.
MVHS congratulates our four senior students who made the in-person interview stage of the University of Wyoming Trustees Scholarship process. The UW website states that the, "UW Trustees' Scholars Award is the premier scholarship for the best and brightest Wyoming high school seniors." Congratulations to our four seniors listed below who made it through the interview process for the scholarship which is a huge honor unto itself.
Kole Behunin
Trace Hadley
Wyatt Jensen
Cooper Redden
The Special Education department would like to recognize the middle school case managers-Lori Jensen, Brent Walk, and Milly Webb. The teamwork you have demonstrated this year is exceptional! Refining how you deliver IEP services, improving your IEP paperwork, and thinking about improvements next year. Love it! Keep up the great work!
Shout out to the administrative team! It is wonderful to work with a group of individuals who are smart, thoughtful, and committed to excellence. Thank you for what you do!
January 2023
Alison Lyman, we love you and your service to the special education department in Mountain View is unparalleled! We appreciate you working with Krista to help transition her into her new role. Your continued support of our success is very much appreciated!
Special education related service providers and case managers, you are doing an excellent job identifying student needs and planning for them! It is impressive and inspiring to see how you help students navigate the challenges they experience due to having a disability. Great work!
MVHS would like to congratulate our - now - Two Time State Champion Cross Country Coach, Isaac Kiefer, who has been named the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Wyoming Coach of the Year. This is a huge honor for Coach Kief as well as MVHS. Coach Kiefer is preparing those runners to compete at their best all the time and he is appreciated.
MVHS would like to recognize the bus drivers who not only deliver the students to school every day, but also our activity drivers who take on the challenge of having athletes on a bus and taking them on what can be a five to six-hour road trip, and sometimes with unantipated overnight responsibilities thanks to the Wyoming weather. These drivers are willing to risk sketchy roads, poor weather, and some pretty high strung coaches at times in order to safely deliver our student-athletes to their destination. Thank you to our Transportation Department and bus drivers!
December 2022
The district would like to congratulate our Cross-Country coach, Isaac Kiefer, and our Volleyball coach, Diana Tims, for being recognized by the Wyoming Coach's Association as the 3A Coach of the Year for their respective sports. Coach Kiefer and Coach Tims are excellent representatives of our community, district, school and their players. They are developing a strong culture of success within their programs.
MVHS would like to thank our counselor Stormy Hauf and teachers Colette Bugas and Linda Newton for coordinating a trip for students to Western Wyoming Community College. This was a chance for some of our students to see what our closest community college neighbor can offer in terms of academic and vocational programs. There is NO DOUBT that WWCC is absolutely the best value for the money for our students as they consider their options after high school. This trip to WWCC allowed students to see some of their options and to know that going to college doesn't necessarily mean "Four more years," it can mean one year, earn a certificate in a high leverage area, and earn a great job with benefits!
Thank you to our custodial and maintence staff for making sure our facility was up and running for our Bridger Valley basktball tournament and ready each morning for coaches, players, officials, and fans as they arrived. Visitors to our schools are always impressed with our facilities and how well we maintain them. Also a huge thanks to all the clock operators who sat at the score tables for hours on end doing a tough job. We also appreciate our ticket takers who sometimes have to take the brunt of upset community when they forget they have to pay to come into the tournament. They are always able to show kindness and patience in what can be a difficult situation. And, no suprise to anyone, Mrs. Phillips hospitality room is coming to be known across the state as being one where our officials and coaches and bus drivers can actually sit and have some quiet and gather their breath before heading back out to the gyms. Last but not least, a huge thanks to Mr. Rees for his scheduling and flexibility as teams sometimes cancel hours before their game and he is able to be sure every teams gets a certain number of games. Without his leadership and hard work, the tournament would not be what it is and our student-athletes would be on the road that weekend instead of being able to sleep in their own beds all weekends.
MVE would like to recognize our K/1 Teachers for getting our monthly performances ready for their all-pod meetings again. We are so happy to be doing activities like this again. The students do a great job, and are so excited to share with their families. We had over 120 in attendance at this month's K/1 all-pod meeting. Thanks to parents, grandparents, and families for all of our support at these activities.
MVE would also like to recognize our music staff for the great job they do in getting our students ready for their music performances beginning at this time of year. Mrs. Bluemel and Mr. Larsen prepared an awesome 1st grade program, and Mrs. Phillips and our 5th graders have written another fabulous Christmas program. The students put so much into these performances, and their excitement stems from the motivation and excitement shown by their teachers. Looking forward to the rest of the year's performances as well!
November 2022
No November Spotlight would be complete without recognizing the competitive efforts of our STATE CHAMPION Boys Cross-Country and STATE CHAMPION Girls Volleyball Team. Not only are these two teams hanging another banner in our gym, but they are also consistently recognized for their excellent conduct and behavior off campus as well as their academic achievements in the classroom. Both of these teams have been recognized - again - this year with the highest level of WHSAA academic recognition because of their combined GPA's during the sports season. Cross Country maintained a 3.70 GPA while Volleyball maintained a 3.85 GPA. Congratulations to all the athletes and their coaches for their effort and teamwork!
MVHS would like to recognize 9th grader Seamus Hamilton, for being recognized as the Student Employee of the Year at the DisAbility: IN Uinta County luncheon at the Heritage Barn on October 20. Seamus was recognized not just for being an excellent employee this summer for the school, but for his leadership among other students and for his positive example! Great job, Seamus and keep up the great work!
We also want to recognize the efforts of Wanda Rogers from DisAbility: IN Uinta County. Wanda coordinates mentoring events and school-to-work events for students here at MVHS and these are always a quality event for our young people. She has been a positive influence here at MVHS for well over two decades. Thank you, Wanda Rogers!
MVMS would like to thank Joe Webb and Debbie Smith for their support this school year with student Chromebooks. Day in and day out, they are there to help support students with their technology needs. Without them, it would be difficult for us as a school to utilize chromebooks for learning on a level we currently do.
If you're looking for a great collaborative team, look no further then our library staff. Day in and day out they work together to ensure the needs of our students are met when it comes to reading. Whether it's technology lessons with our elementary students, book talks with middle school classes, or putting together an excellent high school yearbook, they always put the needs of the students first. Thank you for everything you do to support our students.
Thank you, Matt Clark, for your consistent and measured approach in our IEP meetings! You do a great job including multiple voices, getting through the paperwork, and informing parents about how their son or daughter is doing. You are a valued member of our team!
Lori Erickson and Elizabeth Vitt do a wonderful job as our Speech Pathologists! They are smart and kind. With each student they apply the best of their skill set to help them. Thank you!
MVE would like to recognize our custodial and maintenance staff. Our staff and students wrote them thank you cards and letters (all because a 2nd grader asked what we could do and helped with the idea) this month as a way to express their gratitude for the great work they do.
October 2022
Everyone at MVHS would like to thank the in-building and community support we experienced during Homecoming Week. In the building we had Student Council Advisor Colette Bugas and the Student Council officers coordinating activities and fun events for students, and in the community we had previous graduates participating with our students, we had the Town of Mountain View, Volunteer Fire Fighters, Local (and State!) Police working in support of our parade and other activities. What an amazing week of events to help students build positive memories.
Thank you special education case managers, related service providers, and teachers! This past month I have attended some of the best student staffing's of my career. What I have especially enjoyed is the that everyone brings their experiences and knowledge to the table and we problem solve in a way that leads to what is best for the students. Impressive!
MVMS would like to thank our teachers and parents for making parent teacher conferences a successful time to come to together about students. What a great opportunity to visit our student strengths and how we can work together to make our students successful.
Middle and High School Collaborative Learning Team: Thank you for taking the time to better understand trauma and the impact it can have on student learning. As we discussed, connection can be a way to mitigate some of the effects of trauma. When I look at your group, I appreciate - to a person - the connections you make with students who have disabilities. I am sure the relationships you build with these students will impact them now and in their lives after school.
MVHS would like to recognize the parents, players, and coaches of the volleyball team for their efforts during the Pink Game activities. Numerous volleyball families provided baskets to be auctioned off online and the team also coordinated a school dance with all of the proceeds going to support a local family affected by cancer. These Pink Game events are a reminder for all of us about what a great community we live in and how our students can have an impact beyond themselves in support of a family in need. Thank you to the entire volleyball team family and the entire community for your efforts in support of Locals for Locals.
MVMS would like to thank MVPD and Uinta County Sheriff's department for their support during our monthly ALICE School Safety Drills. They insight and feedback help us ensure we are providing the safest learning environemnt possible for our students and staff.
This month the spotlight shines upon all Uinta 4 staff for the outstanding assessment results we have received recently. These results can be found in the 2022 Annual Report to Stakeholders.
September 2022
The entire staff at MVHS would like to recognize our maintenance, custodial, and grounds crews for their hard work all summer to get the school ready for students again. There were numerous interruptions to their regular routine this summer with a visit from the Tour de Wyoming riders and a large clothing drive in August. This crew does an excellent job getting things up and running here for the school year. Our outside facilities seem to get better every year, and I appreciate all those people who help bring things together before students arrive and keep things ship shape for our outdoor athletic events. What a crew! Thank you!
Shout out to Coach Lym and Nurse Chris to taking our 8th grade students on our annual Alligator Lake hike. The weather was perfect and the students enjoyed being out in the mountains. As usual, not alligators were spotted in the lake.
MVE wants to echo the thank you to our maintenance, custodial, and grounds crew! As always, they do a fabulous job ensuring our school and the grounds are clean, safe, and look great. They get our staff and students off to a great start because of the way our school looks and feels when we begin each fall. Thanks for all you do for our students and staff here at MVE! Much appreciated!
Thank you Jennifer Larsen and Matt Clark for your supervision of the summer student work crew! It was impressive to see you helping your team learn good work ethic and valuable job skills. No doubt that you are teaching these students things that will help them in their lives beyond school.
Geri Nelson. Over the course of the summer you went the extra mile to learn things that would be helpful for your new job. No doubt that the impact will be seen in student learning. Thank you and great work!
MVMS would like to say thank you to our food service department for ensuring our students have a hot meal ready to go every day. Just like went we go the store and find our favorite snack foods are missing from the self, they have also had to deal with supply chain issues and shortages. Sometimes they have to make last minute changes to the meal, but they make sure that the students are taken care of. Thank you for going the extra mile to take care of our students.

Great job, Shay!!
July 2021: MVHS would like to offer a HUGE shout out to recently graduated Kylee Dellinger who will be headed up to Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming to play BOTH basketball AND soccer for the Trappers. What an opportunity for a hard-working young lady. Apparently Kylee's efforts at the WHSAA State Soccer Tournament in Cheyenne gave some coaches and extra opportunity to take a look at some of the things Kylee offers to her teammates. The Trappers will benefit from Kylee's leadership, positivity, and work ethic. Congratulations to both Kylee and the Trappers for picking up a great kid from MVHS!
August 2021: Mountain View High School would like to recognize those fall athletes and coaches who begin practice this month. We have definitely learned that sports and school are critical for students during uncertain times and we appreciate the effort of our student-athletes and the coaches who work hard in the heat of August for their chosen sports. We know that many of the lessons that come out of participating in sports are just as important as the lessons that come out of the classroom. Great job to all of you and good luck!
This month the Spotlight on Success shined upon Business Manager, Pam Sibert. The Board of Trustees honored Pam during the August Board meeting. Congratulations Pam!
September 2021: Mountain View High School would like to recognize the service and volunteer efforts of our high school football players. Last year an elementary aged student had some health issues and the community started a Facebook auction in her support. Coach Walk volunteered his entire football team for a half-day of work. Community member Rick Guild paid for the football team to come work on his ranch and donated a large amount of money in support of this student. This is the fourth time that the high school football team has donated their time, effort, and hard work in support of someone in need across the Bridger Valley by volunteering a half day of their labor. Again this weekend at the middle school football jamboree many of those same high school players volunteered to help referee the middle school jamboree and support their future teammates. Great job to the coaching staff and players of MVHS football!

Angie Martin, Geraldine Sing, Lisa Jensen, Monique Hysell, Rhonda Behunin, and Tami Stoddard... otherwise know as the FAST Experts... Thank you for being willing to lead out by learning the FAST assessment system and coaching others. Because of your efforts to understand and teach the FAST assessments I saw the K-8 teachers be able to go through the benchmark testing with relative ease. It's a joy working with you!
MVMS would like to recognize our tech department with all of hard they have done this first month of school helping students as they transitioned in and out of the school building due to quarantines. When students needed to have their Chromebooks available to them so they could continue learning from home, Joe and Debbie made sure they had the Chromebook and charging cord in the office as soon as they found out. Thank you for all of the hard work.
October 2021: MVHS would also like to recognize the 3A State Champion Cross Country team. This team has grown and improved over the last several years, setting themselves up to be champions this year. Thank you for your passion and dedication. You both are valued members of our Sped team.
MVMS would like to recognize Sala Condos and all of the hard work she does as our middle school office manager. Thank you to these students and the support of their parents as they prepare for their post-secondary careers.

This is the fourth state championship title for these girls and the sixth straight state State Cheer Championship of one type or another. Great job to our coaches, athletes, and parents for your commitment to excellence.
MVHS would also like to congratulate freshman McKinlee Covolo. McKinlee recently traveled to Albuquerque for the annual Society of Range Management conference where she competed against 20 other students in a speaking contest related to range and soil management. McKinlee gave a speech in front of a packed house on hydrophobicity which is how severe fires ruins soil by hardening it and not allowing water to penetrate into the ground. McKinlee placed FOURTH as a freshman in that national speaking contest. Great job, McKinlee!

Thank you coaches for everything you do.
March 2022: MVHS would like to recognize our Transportation Training Coordinator and bus driver, Carmen Erickson. Over Regional Basketball weekend in Powell, another driver became ill and Carmen dropped everything she was doing to go up with another driver to bring the ill driver home, and Carmen stayed and drove the girls basketball bus home on some of the trickier roads we have seen on a road trip in a long time. Carmen stepped up and was her usual positive self while giving up an entire weekend with her family to support another driver and one of our sports teams. Great effort in support of a bigger cause. Thank you, Carmen!

MVE would like to recognize all of our staff who helped with Kindergarten screening. It was once again a successful experience. This screening gives us important information to help make our incoming Kindergarten students experience in starting Kindergarten be as successful as always. Nurse Chris and Nurse Dallas screen hearing and vision. Elizabeth Vitt and Lori Erickson screen for articulation and language. Amy Lansdowne and Bonnie Rudy screen gross and fine motor. Our Kindergarten teachers screen many other academic areas. Other staff members assist as needed as well. These are amazing people and we are fortunate to have them working for us.
MVMS would like to recognize our substitute teachers who are always available to help us out when teachers and coaches need to be out of the classroom. Thank you for being a very important part of our school.
The high school also appreciates the entire custodial crew of UCSD #4 with special appreciation to Sandy Baer, Jessica Leon, Tracy Alexander, and Dustie Slaugh for their efforts throughout basketball season. Under the best of circumstances the winter sports season presents some unique challenges for our custodians, but this season more than others. There were many late nights on Friday followed by an early morning when another basketball game followed close on its heels. Although the basketball season for our student-athletes continues, we don't host any more games this season and the efforts of the custodial staff for the high school and district deserve to be recognized. Thank you!!
MVHS recognizes and appreciates the efforts of our school counselor, Stormy Hauf, as we enter "High School Registration" season. Mrs. Hauf is in and out of classrooms helping students select classes for next year and then has to take all of that information and make a meaningful best guess on sections for the coming school year so that we can have a master schedule that balances student requests and student needs. She does this while also coordinating "College Application and Scholarship Season" when so many seniors are considering different options and looking at their needs financially. All this while also working with individual students and small groups to ensure the Social and Emotional Learning of our students remains a top priority. Thank you Mrs. Hauf for your efforts to support ALL students at Mountain View High School.

They exemplified what it means to be a Buffalo! Thank you Mrs. Anderson and students!

This group of young ladies has overcome sickness and quarantine in January to absolutely represent Mountain View High School to the highest level. MVE would like to recognize all of our teachers for the time they have put into looking at math programs and tools. They have really put a lot of effort to find things to fit in our curriculum to help our students better meet our state standards, especially in the areas we have deemed our "power standards". The collaboration and work they have put into this has been awesome!
December 2020: For the December Spotlight on Success, MVHS recognizes the students and staff who took on the challenge of teaching and learning remotely this semester. All staff have had to be ready to teach all of their sections for students who were absent because of quarantine. We have also had numerous students who have been quarantined for up to eight school days. Overall our students have been able to stay right on track with their learning during their quarantine time. Teaching, learning, and education overall have definitely changed over the last nine months and one thing we have learned is that Mountain View is up to the challenge. Thank you to all of our students and staff for their hard work as we finish the first semester and Merry Christmas!
November 2020: MVHS would like to recognize our high school librarian staff of Kim Tait and Jaime Salinas as they took on additional responsibilities in November of checking in with students on quarantine. Kim and Jaime were emailing students and calling parents in an effort to be sure high school students who couldn't attend school were engaged in their learning and had access to all the technology. They have done and will continue to do an excellent job as advocates for those students not in school.
MVK8 Music staff would like to recognize JoAnn Pihl for always going above and beyond. Not only does JoAnn do a great job cleaning and sanitizing the music rooms during the school day, but she also does more outside of her contracted time to ensure materials, instruments, and the music rooms are ready for students to learn and excel. Recently she took the cans/boxes which hold instruments and manipulatives and painted/decorated them at home. Thanks for helping to make the learning environment inviting for our students.
Mountain View Special Services would like to give a shout out to Linda Newton and Colette Bugas for their dedication to MVHS students. Over the years these veteran teachers have established a system to help their students succeed and graduate. Thank you Linda an Colette for your dedication and hard work!!
October 2020: Big shout out to our building office managers - Marlene Flint, Sala Condos, and Gina Tims - for such an excellent job and ongoing effort to make sure we have substitutes in the classrooms this year as necessary. This year, more than ever, substitutes are hard to come by and so essential to keeping school open. It has taken lots of problem solving, creativity, and juggling of schedules to make this work. Thank you!
MVMS would like to recognize the efforts of Ms. Egley, our K-8 Art teacher, for her efforts to increase her student's artistic abilities by using "Inktober" during her Art classes. Inktober is a month long art challenge focusing on improving skills and positive drawing habits.
MVHS would also like to recognize the efforts of several students involved in Student Council during Homecoming Week activities. With so many events going on, several students in class leadership positions went above and beyond in terms of organizing and coordinating events for their peers: Natalee Rudy - Student Cornhole Tournament; Ali Rinker - Stud Volleyball; Kyia Rice - Powder Puff football; Haylee Rudy - Combat Bingo. Also, several student council leaders went above and beyond and those were the four students in charge of the Homecoming Parade that was one of the best ones hosted by MVHS during Homecoming Week. All four of these young ladies did an excellent job helping things run smoothly on a short timeline: Angelica Mosher, Ashlee Tims, Maddi Aimone, Kennadee Hadley.
The Board of Trustees will be honoring Gayle Eyre for her outstanding contribution to the school district over many years. We all wish Gayle the best in her well-deserved retirement! Thank you Gayle!
The Special Education Department would like to recognize and spotlight Mrs. Alison Lyman, who has served the district and students for 34 years. Alison is the Office Administrator for the department and the compliance officer for the IEP process. All of us would like to thank her for her hard work and dedication to our students, staff, and community!
MVE would like to recognize the great work our nurses have done to get this school year started. Nurse Chris and Nurse Dallas put a lot of time in over the summer and have already had to field a lot of questions and scenarios that go above and beyond the "norm" of a school nurse's duties. Thanks for your hard work and dedication to our students, staff, and community!
MVMS is proud to recognize the hard work put in by Isaac Kiefer with our remote learning classroom camera system. Mr. Kiefer has spent countless hours working in his own classroom, with our tech department, and other staff members learning about and using our system to help create the best remote learning experience for our students who currently cannot attend school in person. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication.
MVHS would like to recognize the outstanding contributions of Activities Director, Dustin Rees. Mr. Rees has been active all summer coordinating summer athletic activities so high school athletes could come into the building in a safe way for sports camps and weight room work. Mr. Rees's initial system from June of having students scan QR codes with their mobile device and confirming their health is still in use today and is being used by other districts to confirm their athlete's readiness to participate in sports. Mr. Rees has also been active in working with the MVHS music department to ensure that county and state guidelines are being followed so that parents can still watch their middle and high school students participate in choir, band, and guitar concerts. Mr. Rees has also been kept busy with new guidelines for athletic events and totally revising our athletic schedules for the fall and - most recently - for winter sports. Mr. Rees is also the head coach for the MVMS football team requiring travel and practice adjustments as he works to meet his responsibilities as a teacher and the district activities director. Thank you Mr. Rees for your hard work and dedication to the students of this district.
Thank you Coach Hamblin, Coach Kiefer, and students for a great Middle School Cross Country Season. The final meet was held October 8th at Fort Bridger Historical Site.
