The U of I Extension Seed Potato team focuses on identifying optimal tools for managing tuber-borne diseases and improving seed potato quality. We are committed to conducting research and extension outreach to serve both seed and commercial potato growers. To achieve our goals in the most cost-effective manner, we foster collaborations with colleagues across the state, region, and nation.
The seemingly intractable problem of potato virus y for the seed potato grower requires an integrated approach to management. We explore the options to identify which combination of treatment strategies work best for Idaho seed potato growers.
We conduct annual field trials to test the effectiveness of seed, in-furrow, and foliage-applied products to manage potato diseases or to improve potato quality and yield. We also evaluate fungi for resistance to selected fungicides.
We present our information at various events and in many different formats. Engage in Ag Talk Tuesday (live, online sessions) to learn more about agriculture in the region. Request to receive our weekly Southeast Idaho Aphid Monitoring emails and view data from this and other Idaho pest monitoring programs.
