Abstract:
The study identifies the key areas of professional training for conductors of musical ensembles—a process characterized by a multi-component structure comprising general academic, specialized, and pedagogical elements. Emphasis is placed on the growing importance of the pedagogical—and specifically the educational—role played by future conductors. This aspect facilitates flexibility in creative self-expression, communication, and the management of the musical ensemble. Pedagogical training is examined as a means of enhancing professional engagement, developing the skills necessary to effectively organize the student learning process, and enabling the timely resolution of issues related to personal development within the ensemble. The core concept of modern music pedagogy centers on the holistic nature of pedagogical practice, wherein the educational process aims to achieve instructional goals while simultaneously fostering personal development. The upbringing of the music ensemble leader is identified as an absolute priority. The significance of the music ensemble conductor’s role in fostering values has been further clarified, driven by the state of war in Ukraine, the growing demand for the national values embodied in Ukrainian music, and the importance of recognizing the distinct agency of Ukrainian classical, folk, and popular musical cultures. It is emphasized that, amidst the current breakdown of outdated cultural stereotypes and the recognized value of preserving genuine musical gems, there is a need to foster the individual’s potential through a comprehensive approach encompassing intellectual, moral, aesthetic, civic, vocational, and physical education/ The study substantiates the principles of national upbringing, humanization, individualization, and the encouragement of self-education. It highlights the importance of understanding the goals, objectives, methods, and content of the educational process, as well as the skills required to unite a performing ensemble, employ an appropriate pedagogical leadership style, and implement a system for its long-term development. Based on a comparative analysis of the ensemble conductor’s pedagogical leadership styles, the role of the most productive communication style—grounded in a shared interest in the collaborative creative work of the conductor and musicians—is summarized. A communication style based on friendly relations does not preclude maintaining a certain distance between the leader and the musical community.
Keywords: choir conductor, orchestra conductor, upbringing within a musical ensemble, management styles of a musical ensemble.
