Abstract:
Modern Ukrainian education is in a state of profound transformations, caused by both internal reforms and external challenges, in particular the war. In this context, the issue of updating the educational process is of particular relevance, which should not only ensure the academic development of the individual, but also the formation of their civic consciousness, civic competence, ability for social interaction, patriotism, and responsible attitude towards society. The most important civic qualities are highlighted: a sense of civic responsibility, a sense of civic dignity, civic consciousness, civic courage, readiness to defend the Motherland, commitment to state interests, civic activity, legal awareness, respect for Ukrainian traditions, and state optimism. Civic competence is a purposeful, active, motivated activity of a person in the role of a citizen, guided by formed value orientations, acquired knowledge, democratic values. A number of system-forming elements that form civic competence have been identified. Scientists consider the integrative nature of civic competence in the following aspects: sociopsychological, socio-legal, pedagogical and moral-ethical. In accordance with the ten main components of civic competence defined in the “Concept of the Development of Civic Education in Ukraine”, its formation is a multi-vector process. Of particular relevance for the formation of civic competence is the observance of a holistic system of educational principles that constitute the ideological and methodological basis for pedagogical activity. These principles determine the requirements for methods, approaches, content, and foundations of the organization of the educational process aimed at the formation of value orientations, attitudes, skills, and knowledge, and in practical activities become the basis for substantiating, defining, and ensuring pedagogical conditions for the purpose of forming citizenship in an individual. The main structural elements that are important for the formation of civic competence of a modern specialist are revealed.
