PEDAGOGICAL POTENTIAL OF EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOFT SKILLS OF FUTURE EDUCATORS

Abstract:
CATORS The article examines the pedagogical potential of extracurricular activities in higher education institutions for the development of soft skills among future educators. It analyzes the conceptual characteristics of soft skills, identifies their key features, defines their functions, and proposes their structural framework. The structure of soft skills includes the following components: development domains (communication skills, effective thinking skills, and self-management skills); key characteristics (universality, social orientation, and the fact that they are not included in formal job descriptions); functions (personal self-realization, professional development, and social integration); and the developmental environment, which consists of extracurricular activities (student activities not directly related to educational components of the curriculum and organized independently by students or higher education institutions) and curricular activities (student learning activities conducted within the educational components of the curriculum). The article also reveals the specific features of organizing extracurricular activities for students, including their close connection with academic and research activities; students’ freedom to choose the forms and level of voluntary participation; the fact that extracurricular activities are not included in the formal curriculum, allowing students to engage in them beyond the mandatory educational requirements and during their free time; the combination of cooperation with teachers and independent student work; and the incorporation of innovative content, forms, and methods of implementation. The study characterizes the main forms of extracurricular activity organization, including individual forms, which involve work with individual students; group forms, characterized by a clear organizational structure and a relatively stable group of participants united by common interests; mass forms, which do not have a fixed organizational structure and are designed to involve a large number of students simultaneously; and integrated forms, which combine various types of extracurricular activities and provide comprehensive educational initiatives aimed at the purposeful development of professionally significant qualities in students.
