Abstract:
The article examines the theoretical and practical aspects of competency-based physical education of primary school students using games. The relevance of the study is due to modern trends in the lack of physical activity of children due to excessive fascination with social networks, computer games and digital technologies, which reduces motivation for physical activity, limits direct communication with peers, negatively affects the development of physical qualities and mental abilities, attention, memory and emotional stability, and adversely affects academic performance, psycho-emotional well-being and socialization of children. The relevance of using games not only as an effective pedagogical tool for increasing the motor activity of primary school students, developing their physical qualities, and forming a positive attitude towards a healthy lifestyle, but also as an effective pedagogical tool for forming key competencies, social interaction, responsibility, initiative, creativity and positive motivation for learning is substantiated. The essence of the concept of “competence-oriented physical education of primary school students” is clarified, which is considered as a purposeful pedagogical process of forming motor skills and abilities, developing physical qualities and acquiring key and subject competencies necessary for maintaining health, social interaction, self-realization and selfdevelopment. The competence potential of game activity in the process of physical education is determined. The possibilities of using outdoor games, relay races, team games, sports and cognitive quests for the formation of fluency in the state language, mathematical, natural, innovative, environmental, information and communication, civic and social, cultural competencies, entrepreneurship and financial literacy, as well as the ability to learn throughout life are revealed. It is proven that game activity ensures the integration of physical, cognitive, social and emotional development of primary school students and can be considered as an effective tool for implementing a competency approach in physical education.
