Abstract:
The article examines the issue of integrating traditional and modern teaching methods in special schools as an important direction in the modernization of special education. The relevance of the study is обусловлена the need to improve the quality of the educational process for children with special educational needs, ensure their effective socialization, and prepare them for life in the modern information society. In the context of educational reform, particular importance is attached to finding an optimal combination of well-established traditional approaches and innovative pedagogical technologies.
The essence of traditional teaching methods widely used in special schools is analyzed. These include explanatory and illustrative methods, reproductive exercises, systematic revision and consolidation of educational material, as well as the use of visual aids. It has been established that these methods ensure a structured educational process, accessibility of learning material, and contribute to the formation of basic knowledge, skills, and abilities in children with developmental disorders. Traditional approaches play a special role in corrective and developmental work, particularly in speech formation and the development of thinking, memory, and attention.
At the same time, the article highlights the features of modern teaching methods that are increasingly used in educational practice. These include interactive technologies, project-based learning, game-based methods, the use of information and communication technologies, digital educational resources, and elements of STEM education. It is proven that modern approaches enhance learning motivation, activate students’ cognitive activity, foster creativity, and support the development of key competencies.
Special attention is paid to the issue of integrating traditional and modern teaching methods. It is substantiated that the effectiveness of the educational process in special schools largely depends on the harmonious combination of different teaching approaches. Traditional methods provide the foundation for knowledge acquisition, while modern methods facilitate its practical application and the development of students’ independence. Such integration makes it possible to take into account individual characteristics of children, their level of development, and their educational needs.
The main principles of integrating teaching methods are identified, including individualization and differentiation of learning, accessibility and consistency in presenting material, activation of cognitive activity, and a corrective orientation of the educational process. It is noted that adherence to these principles ensures the creation of an effective educational environment conducive to the development of children with special educational needs.
The pedagogical conditions necessary for the successful integration of traditional and modern methods are analyzed, including the training of teaching staff capable of using innovative technologies, provision of adequate material and technical resources, use of adapted curricula, and creation of a positive psychological climate. Interaction between teachers, parents, and support specialists (speech therapists, psychologists) is also important, ensuring a comprehensive approach to organizing the educational process.
Examples of the practical combination of traditional and modern methods are provided, including the use of didactic games in combination with digital technologies, the application of project-based learning together with traditional exercises, and the integration of multimedia tools into corrective and developmental activities. Such approaches contribute to improving learning effectiveness, enhancing cognitive activity, and supporting students’ socialization.
It is concluded that the integration of traditional and modern teaching methods is a necessary condition for improving the quality of education in special schools. It ensures not only the acquisition of knowledge but also the development of key competencies, formation of social skills, and preparation of children for independent living.
