Abstract:
The article provides a theoretical substantiation of the problem of developing intercultural competence in future specialists in international relations in the process of mastering German for specific purposes. The relevance of the study is determined by the growing role of intercultural interaction, diplomatic discourse, and the language of negotiations in today’s globalized professional environment, which necessitates the integration of linguistic, professional, and cultural components in foreign language training for international relations students. Based on an analysis of domestic and international scholarly sources, the essence of intercultural competence is clarified as an integrative, multi-component construct related to professional foreign-language communication in the field of international relations.
The author proposes a conceptualization of the structure of intercultural competence encompassing cognitive, operational-activity, value-motivational, and reflective components. The main stages and pedagogical conditions for its development within the course «German for Specific Purposes» are identified. Particular attention is paid to the case method as a means of integrating linguistic, professional, and cultural training through the simulation of real-life international negotiation situations. It is concluded that the purposeful development of intercultural competence in the process of learning German ensures the readiness of future specialists in international relations for effective professional activity in a multicultural environment. Prospects for further research are associated with the experimental validation of the structural-methodological model and the refinement of criteria for assessing the level of intercultural competence development.
The effectiveness of the formation of this competence is determined by the combination of culturally integrated training content, work with authentic materials of diplomatic discourse, systematic mastery of professional terminology, and the use of active learning methods, primarily the case method.
