Abstract:
The article analyzes the speech competence of first- and fourth-year students of Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian hungarian university during the educational process.
A contemporary student of Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University is a learner who requires the use of modern, innovative educational technologies. The range of pedagogical methods is extremely broad and includes the purposeful development of students’ communicative competence. The primary task of the teacher is to develop the skills and abilities that constitute the foundation of speech activity. Speech competence ensures the development of students’ productive (speaking and writing) and receptive (listening and reading) language skills.
Speech competence is one of the key integrative characteristics of an individual that facilitates socialization and is manifested in the ability and readiness to consciously and appropriately use linguistic means, in knowledge of the patterns of their functioning, as well as in the ability to produce and comprehend speech utterances.
The aim of our study was to determine the level of development of communicative competence among first- and fourth-year students of Ferenc Rakoczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University. In the course of the research, a number of aspects were analyzed and various research methods were examined, among which the questionnaire survey proved to be the most effective research tool.
The generalization of the obtained results allows us to conclude that one of the most common reasons for student dropout is a low level of learning motivation. In many families, parents do not pay sufficient attention to encouraging their children’s educational activities, as they do not always recognize the importance of education. This attitude significantly affects young people’s approach to learning and often leads to a decrease or complete loss of motivation.
Teachers play a decisive role in motivating and supporting students, as well as in developing their native-language and foreign-language competencies. In this context, it is extremely important to create an atmosphere of trust, empathy, and mutual understanding, as well as to provide conditions that allow students to freely express their thoughts and opinions. This, in turn, contributes to increasing learning motivation, reducing dropout rates, developing language skills, and improving academic performance in higher education institutions.
