Abstract:
The article analyzes the relevance of the problem of compliance with academic integrity by higher education applicants. The mechanisms for the formation of academic integrity as a fundamental component of the quality of higher education in Ukraine are outlined.
The effectiveness of the implementation of ethical standards, which are ensured through the study of the educational component «Academic Culture», is determined. The authors emphasize the systematic and gradual formation of the foundations of academic integrity in higher education applicants: from the theoretical analysis of the regulatory and legal framework (Civil Code of Ukraine, Law of Ukraine «On Higher Education», Law of Ukraine «On Education», Law of Ukraine «On Copyright and Related Rights», methodological recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for higher education institutions on supporting the principles of academic integrity (2018), etc.) to the implementation of practical exercises and tasks.
It has been established that effective methods for forming the foundations of academic integrity in higher education students in the context of studying the educational component «Academic Culture» are: studying pedagogical situations that demonstrate the manifestation of academic dishonesty and finding ways to solve them; studying types of bibliographic references in scientific texts; tasks for paraphrasing «direct citation» into» «indirect citation»; creating your own notes «How to paraphrase a text correctly»; formulating rules for using quotes in scientific works; getting acquainted with the Code of Honor of a higher education institution, writing essays on the topic of academic integrity; involving students in activities in the University’s Scientific Society; participating in all-Ukrainian and international projects, workshops, conferences, etc. The authors have proven that systematic work within the course «Academic Culture» contributes to the transformation from formal requirements of integrity into stable internal beliefs of higher education students.
