Hulya Seferoglu

Hulya Seferoglu is an Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of University of Illinois at Chicago. Before joining University of Illinois at Chicago, she was a Postdoctoral Associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She received her Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of California, Irvine, M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Sabanci University, and B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Istanbul University. She worked as a summer intern in AT&T Labs Research, Docomo USA Labs, and Microsoft Research, Cambridge. She served as associate editors for IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (2022-current) and IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking (2017–2021). She received the NSF CAREER award in 2020. Current Ph.D. Students

Teng Li is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Illinois at Chicago, whose supervisor is Prof. Hulya Seferoglu. He received a B.S. of Engineering in Automation from Northeastern University (China) and M.S. of Science in University of Illinois at Chicago. His research interests are in the area of distributed machine learning. 

Peyman joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as a Ph.D. student in January 2022. Before joining UIC, he received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) in 2018, and M.Sc. degree in Communication Systems from Sharif University of Technology (SUT) in 2021. Currently, he is pursuing research in the areas of distributed machine learning, resource allocation algorithms, and communication system optimization. 

Yi-Chun Chen

Yi-Chun Chen is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She received an M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 2022, and a B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from National Taiwan Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 2018. Her research interests are in the area of distributed machine learning and network pruning. 

Fatemeh Jafarian Dehkordi

Fatemeh Jafarian Dehkordi is a Ph.D. student in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UIC supervised by Dr. Seferoglu. She received her B.Sc. from the University of Tehran, Iran. Her research interests are in the area of distributed machine learning, privacy-preserving machine learning, and coded computation. 

Alireza Feizbakhsh

Alireza is a Ph.D. student in the Electrical Engineering department of University of Illinois at Chicago under supervision of Dr. Hulya Seferoglu. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in February 2023. His research interests are distributed machine learning, coding theory, edge computing and coded computation.

Juwendo Denis (2019-2020)

Juwendo Denis received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering and the M.Sc. degree in Communication Engineering from National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 2011 and 2013, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Communications Engineering from the CEDRIC Research Laboratory, Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, Paris, France, in 2016. He was a Postdoctoral Researcher with CentralSupelec, Gif-sur-Yvette, France. He was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Illinois at Chicago between Sept. 2019 - Sept. 2020.

Elahe Vedadi, completed her Ph.D. thesis on "Adaptive and Secure Coded Computation for Distributed Learning," September 2023. She is now with Google Research, San Francisco, Bay Area. 

Pengzhen Li'23 (co-advised with Prof. Erdem Koyuncu)

Pengzhen Li, completed his Ph.D. thesis on "Model Distributed Learning at Edge Networks," September 2023. He received his B.S. degree in Computer Engineering from University of Science and Technology Beijing and M.S. degree in University of Illinois at Chicago. His research interests are in the area of distribute machine learning and edge computing.

Yuxuan Xing19

Yuxuan Xing, completed his Ph.D. thesis on “Internet of Computing Things: Design, Optimization, and Implementation,” October 2019. He is now with Siemens Corporate Technology, Beijing. 

Shanyu Zhou19

Shanyu Zhou, completed his Ph.D. thesis on “Design and Optimization of Heterogenous Networks,” July 2019. He is now with Meta. 

Yasaman Keshtkarjahromi17

Yasaman Keshtkarjahromi received her Ph.D. degree from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the University of Illinois at Chicago in May 2017. She worked as a postdoctoral associate in the same department until August 2018. She received her M.S. and B.S. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Tehran and Shiraz University, Iran, respectively. She is currently with Seagate Technology, Storage Research Group.

Marco Colocrese23

Marco Colocrese received an M.S. degree from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of University of Illinois at Chicago and from the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication of Politecnico di Torino. He received his B.S. degree in Computer Engineering from Politecnico di Torino. 

Anusha Chandrashekar Kumble’21

Anusha Chandrashekar Kumble receveid an M.S. degree from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Illinois at Chicago. She completed her bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, India in 2016. 

Zohreh Ovaisi’18 (co-advised with N. Devroye, B. Smida, and D. Tuninetti)

Zohreh Ovaisi received an M.S. degree from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research focused on the development of scheduling algorithms for flows with hard deadline constraints. She was jointly advised by Profs. Devroye, Seferoglu, Smida, and Tuninetti. She received her B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Shahid Beheshti University, Iran. 

Raheleh Khodabakhsh’17

Raheleh Khodabakhsh received M.S. degree from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of University of Illinois at Chicago. Her M.S. thesis is on “Application-Aware Cooperative Time Scheduling for Internet of Things”. She received her M.A.Sc. and B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from McMaster University in Canada and Isfahan University of Technology in Iran, respectively. 

Ajita Singh’15

Ajita Singh received her M.S. degree from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of University of Illinois at Chicago. Her thesis was on “Energy-Aware Computation in Mobile Devices”. She received her B.E. degree from the Electronics and Communication Department at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, India. 

Adeleke Oluwamayowa’15 

Adeleke Oluwamayowa received his M.S. degree from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of UIC in May 2015. His M.S. thesis was on “Software-Defined Network Overlays”. Adeleke received his B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology. Before joining UIC, he worked in Alcatel-Lucent, Nigeria, and during his B.S., he also worked as an intern in Alcatel-lucent, Nigeria.
