At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:
Explain how Mo. Ignacia and the beatas lived out their call
Value Mo. Ignacia’s readiness in serving God and others
Practice the values of competence, resourcefulness, self-reliance in giving service to others.
The biblical definition of commitment means seeking to do what the Lord calls us to do. Mo. Ignacia’s strong faith in God made her commit herself for the service of others. She persevered in her commitment despite the difficulties she encountered. Her commitment to service made her resourceful and creative.
Every responsibility and every commitment spelt out by that doctrine is derived from charity which, according to the teaching of Jesus, is the synthesis of the entire Law “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself(cf. Mt 22:36- 40).(Encyclical Letter Caritas in Veritate: Charity in Truth).
Mother Ignacia responds to God’s call and commits herself to works beyond what is expected generously, freely and voluntarily.
Faith : Strong Faith in God
You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. Hebrews 10:36
When Mother Ignacia decided to follow the Will of God for her life, she started her spiritual journey in solitude by having almost nothing. A young woman committed to her vocation is a mission in this life, that God is calling, and preparing us to do. She makes her heart more free for prayer and service.
SIGNIFICANCE OF A NEEDLE & A PAIR OF SCISSORS
These symbolize her DECISION to Live by the labor of her own hands although her parents could still support her.
these things paved the way for the emergence of their apostolic involvements.
She followed and lived God's two greatest commandments to “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’and to ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. Mother Ignacia committed herself to serve teaching the poor, sick and to those who are inneed not only to her beata but also to her neighbors.
Inspired to follow the suffering Jesus, she also lives in a simple way and her creative handicraft is her only source of living to sustain her daily needs yet she was able to share it to others. She is committed to share her talent Mother Ignacia teaches household work to young women.
Mother Ignacia's commitment was challenged by struggles, they suffered all their hardships with constancy. In 1687, the plague of locust resulted in the scarcity of food supply, rice and salt. They humbly beg for alms. They ate using Banana leaves because they had no plates. In the midst of their poverty and difficulties she sticks together as one community and continues to inspire the community in living a balanced life of prayer and work.
Mother Ignacia is committed for excellence not for her sake of her self-glorification but for the greater Glory of God's Name whom she loved. Her constant striving for excellence led to the institutionalization of the community of Ignacia; from the Beata De La Compania de Jesus to the Congregation of the Religious of the Virgin Mary.
