Summer School - High school credits will be offered through asynchronous online learning (elearning) in the summer of 2026 and are open to all students in grades 9 - 12 in all regions of the UGDSB. These courses will run from June 29, 2026 to July 24, 2026.
Summer School Co-op - This is a two-credit program which combines in-class preparation through night school and a work placement June 29- July 24, 2026. Locations may include: Guelph, Centre Wellington, Mount Forest and Dufferin County pending sufficient enrollment.
Grade 8 Reach-Ahead - Grade 8 students may earn a high school credit before entering secondary school in September. Online learning (asynchronous) courses run from June 29-July 24 2026 and include options for students in French Immersion.
These courses are taught fully online in an asynchronous format. This means you have added flexibility in terms of the pace and schedule of your course work.
Upper Grand DSB Online learning summer school will run from June 29 to July 24, 2026.
Students should expect to work a minimum of 5-6 hours every day to complete their studies.
Daily attendance and participation are mandatory. Students cannot be excused for summer holidays and should not register if they are unable to participate in the whole program.
Students are unable to access online learning courses from outside of Canada.
These credits are for Grade 9 – 12 students:
attempting a credit for the first time; or
attempting a credit for the 2nd time
Students cannot be registered in more than one summer school program in the same session.
Upper Grand DSB secondary school students should see their home school guidance counselor to register for a summer online (eLearning) course.
Students who are not currently registered in a UGDSB secondary school should contact a guidance counsellor in their home school to register for a summer online learning course. The UGDSB is part of the province wide consortium and all online learning opportunities are accessed through a student's current school board.
The Summer School Co-op program integrates classroom theory, online work and practical experience in the workplace. All students can benefit from a co-op experience regardless of their post-secondary destination of choice.
Students earn two high school credits by participating in this program. This program is for students who are at least 15 years of age.
This program includes 8 night school classes that run on Wednesday evenings. These may be in-person, online (synchronous learning), or a combination of in-person and synchronous online learning. Work experience through a co-op placement runs in the summer between June 29 and July 24.
Attendance for all evening classes and the summer co-op placement is mandatory. Students cannot be excused for summer holidays and should not register if they are unable to participate in the whole program.
Transportation is not provided for evening classes nor the summer co-op placement.
All course offerings are dependent on sufficient enrollment.

Reach-ahead credits allow graduating Grade 8 students to earn a high school credit prior to entering secondary school in September. Learners will get a head start on credit accumulation, develop learning and technology skills that will be useful in all secondary settings while gaining self-confidence through successful completion of a high school credit.

Online learning courses cannot be accessed from outside of Canada.
All courses are dependent on sufficient enrollment.
Transportation is not provided for onsite courses.
Please note that all grade 8 reach-ahead classes are taught entirely online in an asynchronous format. This means that while students have flexibility in terms of the pace and schedule of completing work, they do not have a teacher who directly teaches course material or classmates that they meet online. Online learning will involve approximately 6 hours of online work per day. Learners must have their own electronic equipment and reliable internet access.
Students are unable to access these online courses from outside of Canada. Students cannot be excused for summer holidays and should not register if they are unable to participate in the whole program.
Session Dates: Summer school 2026 for grade 8 reach-ahead courses will run from June 29 July 24, 2026 (19 days). More information coming soon.
Daily attendance is required for online learning courses. Summer holidays should not be scheduled during July for students enrolling in summer school.

Asynchronous Online Learning
GLS 1O – Learning Strategies: Skills for Success in Secondary School (1 credit) **Elective Credit
This course focuses on learning strategies to help students become better, more independent learners. Students will learn how to develop and apply literacy and numeracy skills, personal life management skills, and interpersonal and teamwork skills to improve their learning and achievement in school, the workplace, and the community. The course helps students building confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities for success in secondary school and beyond. This credit is offered through online (asynchronous) learning and runs from June 29 to July 24, 2026.
Note: Civics (CHV 20) and Careers (GLC 20) are 2 separate half credits and students must enroll in both.
GLC 2O – Careers (1/2 credit) **Compulsory credit for high school graduation
This course teaches students how to develop and achieve personal goals for future learning, work and community involvement. Students will assess their interests, skills, and characteristics and investigate current economic and workplace trends, work opportunities, and ways to search for work. The course explores post-secondary learning and career options, prepares students for managing work and life transitions, and helps students focus on their goals through the development of a career plan and post-secondary budget. This credit is offered through online (asynchronous) learning and runs in conjunction with Civics (CHV 20) from June 29 to July 24 2026.
CHV 2O – Civics (1/2 credit) **Compulsory credit for high school graduation
This course explores rights and responsibilities associated with being an active citizen in a democratic society. Students will explore issues of civic importance such as healthy schools, community planning, environmental responsibility, and the influence of social media, while developing their understanding of the role of civic engagement and of political processes in the local, national, and /or global community. This credit is offered through online (asynchronous) learning and runs in conjunction with Careers (GLC 2O) from June 29 to July 24 2026.
