What is 'Wellness Works"?

Mentally healthy, safe, inclusive schools and classrooms create the soil from which all learning and exploration grows!

UGDSB's Wellness Works is a resource created by a collaborative committee that includes the UGDSB mental health lead, CYCs, administrators, educators, TJRC staff, and curriculum leaders.

The resource uses monthly themes to support us in working together  - with our students, with our colleagues, and with the community - on understanding and developing important skills related to wellness through curriculum and instructional practice

It is common to hear about the idea of a wellness practice. It is important to emphasize the idea of practice as you begin to dig into this resource. The skills presented as part of this work take practice to build and practice to maintain. It is an unrealistic expectation that students, staff, and community members will be perfect in any of these skills. Some days will feel a little more imperfect than others. That is why reflection and intention are critical components and a reminder that part of wellness is giving ourselves permission to be human is an important entry point.

Our monthly themes provide not only the opportunity to build upon these important skills but to create a sense of community and connectedness as we all work through skill building together.  Monthly newsletters are provided for parents on the themes as well.

June has been designated as a month for reflection, but you will see it woven throughout the year as well as a critical component of the learning cycle.

Check out the monthly themes below. Each month the parent newsletter will also be linked - you will know if it's underlined!
