What's My Number?

What's My Number? (card game to promote flexible thinking about numbers)

  • Any number of players may join (may play in teams or individually).
  • Preparation: Remove the face cards (jacks, queens, kings) from a regular deck of cards.
  • Goal: To win as many cards as possible by guessing the number on the card(s) drawn.
  • The Clue Giver (first player) draws one card (easier) or two cards (harder) from the deck, looks at the card(s) and places the card(s) face down.
  • The other players take turns asking mathematical questions in order to figure out the value of the card(s) drawn. Ex., "Is it an even number?" "Is it greater than 50?"
  • The Clue Giver may only respond to the questions with a yes or no answer.
  • If the guessing players get stumped, the Clue Giver may give out a few mathematical hints. (e.g., if you add 10 and subtract 3, the total is 25).
  • You may wish to set a rule about how many guesses are allowed (e.g, 3-5 guesses and then it is the next player's turn).
  • The player who guess correctly becomes the new Clue Giver. Play for a set amount of time and then count up the cards each player has won.
