Pathways Conversations - Life Beyond Grade 12
Although students in grade 7 and 8 are not necessarily thinking concretely about what they would like to do for a career after high school, they are noticing things that interest them, strengths they have as individuals, and personal beliefs/values that they will connect to decision making and goal setting.
Exploring postsecondary opportunities supports high school course selection because the courses students select should be reflective of their understanding of who they are and who they might want to become.
UGDSB Pathways and Creating Pathways to Success
Pathways conversations are rooted in self - inquiry with these four questions at the core.
At UGDSB this is emphasized in the following philosophies:
Honour all pathways as meaningful and provide a variety of experiences and opportunities for students to explore diverse and fluid career pathways.
All students, K-12+, should have opportunities to explore and experience pathway options by reflecting on the four inquiry questions of Creating Pathways to Success: Who am I? What are my opportunities? What is my plan for achieving my goals? Who do I want to become?
All students, K-12+ should have opportunities and experiences to develop the skills and competencies to adjust and adapt to a changing world.
Students and families/caregivers can access the UG pathways website to support their learning and exploration whenever they want. It includes pages with information specific to grade 7/8 transitions as well as high school and beyond!
