Millage rates can be quite an imposing topic for young journalists, however, in covering a local government beat, understanding how it works and how it impacts the community is essential. In making this reel, I was forced to gain a deeper than surface-level understanding of the tax rate.
While my mastery of the AP Stylebook is ever-improving, I still needed to brush up on the basics in making this reel. By making this reel and doing the necessary research, I was forced to reengage with some of the more basic tenets of AP Style. In doing so, I make my AP Style foundation even stronger than it was before.
I created the Data Visualization in order to visualize Jon Ossoff's campaign finances breakdown in a digestible format. With candidates being held to much scrutiny in regard to their campaign finances, creating a visualization of a local senator helps make his finances easier to understand for those who don't have the time to rummage through all the records.
