Lethargic Broncos Still Out-Class Racine Case Thursday Night
Lethargic Broncos Still Out-Class Racine Case Thursday Night
Junior Urijah Rosa (#16) moves a ball through midfield Thursday night against Racine Case as senior Seth Haertel (#7 far left) looks on.
Perhaps a bit of a let down was to be expected after Tuesday night's intense conference match-up with Beloit, but the Broncos did enough to earn a comfortable 5-0 win over Racine Case on Thursday. Junior Cam DaPra continued his solid start to '25 with a goal and an assist, firing a rocket past the goalkeeper to open the scoring in the 18th, before assisting senior Ethan Barsch's lefty volley in the 31st. Senior Niall Hagen added the first of his two goals in the 35th off a sweet set-piece strike, then senior Kellen Vermeer streaked past the Case defense taking junior Austin Polzin's feed nearly 50 yards for a goal just before halftime. Up 4-0 at the break, the Broncos didn't do much in the 2nd half, but they didn't need to either. Hagen would fire home junior Urijah Rosa's pass in the 75th, but that would be the only 2nd half action as UG cruised to the five-goal win. "Hard to match Tuesday's intensity, but we still needed to have a bit more purpose tonight, too much clearing and less connecting... but a good win nonetheless" commented Coach Jung after the win. Junior Finn Jacobs made 2 saves to earn his 3rd clean sheet of the season, and now the Broncos will rest until next Tuesday night (6:30p) when they travel to Burlington. Good luck boys, be ready and let's go Broncos!
JV Broncos Punish Racine Case for Their Second Win
The JV Broncos did anything but dominate in a back-and-forth match with Racine Case Thursday, but certainly had the better of the finishing in a 5-0 win at home. Sophomore Braden Lueck continued his great start to the season with an impressive hat-trick, scoring twice in the first half and finishing off Case with a rocket in the 64th minute for his third tally, sophomores Sean Barsch and Keagan Vermeer asissting in the final two tallies. Senior Chase Reyes scored his first goal of 2025 with a nice redirection of freshman Conor Gavigan's cross just before the final Lueck goal, and freshman Jordy DaPra was the other goal scorer for UG (assist courtesy of classmate Miles Grzyb), finding a brace early in the first half. All three JV Bronco keepers were called up to earn the shutout on a fairly busy afternoon, with juniors Andrew Hansen (2 saves) and Nate Welch (3 saves) working with sophomore Landen Voss (2 saves) to keep Case scoreless. "It's nice to bounce back after Tuesday night's tough loss, we're still missing a handful of guys so it's good to play well and score some goals short-handed" summarized Coach Jaworski Thursday. The JV2 team will be in action this weekend at the first-ever JV2 Bronco Round Robin Tournament (see schedule HERE), starting at 9am on Saturday 9/20. Good luck boys, way to bounce back and go Broncos!
Junior goalkeeper Andrew Hansen (with ball) got his chance to play in the JV Bronco attack Thursday afternoon, seen here ready for a strike on goal.
