The Stone Bridge Middle School band program is open to all students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Students have class during school as a full-year "encore" class, and instrument lessons once a week as a pull-outs from another class. Students perform several times a year, are eligible to go on band field trips, and can participate in the Summer Band program as well.
A band is a musical team. Each team member is dedicated to learning their instrument and bringing their skills and enthusiasm to the group. The group learns to work and perform together to create amazing and beautiful music. A band is made up of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments (usually no strings or piano). Band is just one type of music ensemble among many, but it is an awesome one -- one that is powerful and full of interesting and amazing possibilities.
Any student can join band. No prior experience is needed. The 6th grade band starts at the very beginning and learns everything together. If you already have experience on a non-band instrument like violin or piano, you can also learn to play a band instrument. You'd be surprised how quickly you can pick up a 2nd instrument!
It takes a few things, but every student can develop these:
* A love of music.
* Regular practice at home.
* A desire to do your very best.
* A desire for your group to be successful.
* Patience. Learning an instrument takes time!
