About Me

My name is Jamie Garner (she/her) and I am currently an Associate Instructional Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Florida. I am also currently the Coordinator of the undergraduate Linguistics program, the undergraduate Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Certificate, and the graduate Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT) Certificate at the University of Florida. Originally from Alabama, I have taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in Germany, the United States, and South Korea. My research interests include learner corpus research, phraseology, and second language acquisition. When I'm not teaching or doing research, I like to read, play video games, and spend time with my wife and daughter.

I am also currently working on a book under contract with Dr. Zoe Wendler titled ""Can We Offer You an Egg in These Trying Times?": Rhetoric, Memetics, and Transgender Comics", to be published by Lexington Books in 2026.
