Minimum Eligibility:
You are 18 years of age or older.
Academically, you are somewhere between your second year of undergrad and your first year of graduate school. Upper level undergrads (3rd and 4th year) are prioritized. College students who have not yet reached their 3rd year, first-year graduate students and students from majors outside the geosciences will be considered as space and funding permits.
Completed at least three relevant courses (geology, geography, natural science, environmental science, GIS, planetary science, etc). You don't have to be a geoscience major, but science majors are preferred. Not sure if you qualify or wish to request an exception? Talk to us!
You are available to participate in the full two-week field course - in person or virtually.
International Students: Accepting International students is difficult for many reasons. Please see the Q&A page for more information about participating as an international student.
A completed Application Form including a personal statement articulating you interest in participating in this project and how it would benefit your personal and/or professional goals. 1-3 paragraphs is a good length. There will be a place to copy/paste your statement in your application form.
Contact name and email address for a faculty mentor, advisor, or other person who can serve as a reference.
30 minute Zoom interviews may be conducted with finalists. You will need access to a computer or personal device with camera and video functions. We will ask about access needs in advance to ensure the interview is accessible.
Completed forms such as a liability waiver, emergency medical information, and personal identifying information so we can book lodging and other logistical needs.
If you have a disability, we will also need some more specific information about your needs to ensure we provide the best experience for you. We respect your privacy , but details about your disability and how it impacts food planning, lodging, transportation, and daily schedules will need to be shared with the project team.
Application window will open in October, and close in late January. We receive a large number of applicants and need time to review them all. We will conduct Zoom interviews with finalists in February, with the goal of sending acceptance notifications by the first week of March. We will organize a pre-course prep meeting with everyone will be in April.
