The ELITE (Engineering Leaders for Transfer Engagement) Program began as a research initiative in the Engineering Communities & Participatory Change (ECoPaC) Lab at the University of Florida, where faculty and students study how individuals navigate critical transitions in engineering education.
Grounded in NSF-funded research on transfer student experiences, ELITE was designed to translate evidence-based findings into practical supports that foster belonging, confidence, and professional growth.
Today, ELITE is implemented in partnership with the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering and campus collaborators as part of a shared effort to institutionalize evidence-based programs that strengthen the success and persistence of transfer and non-traditional students in engineering pathways.
Through a combination of research-informed programming and student-led initiatives, ELITE provides opportunities to:
Strengthen academic adjustment and self-confidence.
Build community and peer connections across departments.
Develop career readiness through workshops and alumni spotlights.
Foster leadership and mentorship skills to give back to others.
Each semester, participants engage in interactive sessions, networking events, and mentorship activities that promote personal growth and professional engagement
ELITE is made possible through collaboration with:
UF Chemical Engineeirng Department
ChEPAs (Chemical Engineering Peer Advisors)
ECoPaC Lab (Engineering Communities & Participatory Change)
UF Career Connections Center
Together, these partners combine expertise in student development, experiential learning, and workforce readiness to build a supportive ecosystem for student success.
Transitions are defining moments in every student’s journey. ELITE transforms these moments into opportunities for growth—helping students not only adjust to a new environment but also build the confidence, community, and clarity to lead as future engineers.
