The projected start date for tree removal is Summer 2024.
The project is expected to be complete by June 30, 2025.
Unfortunately, the Bradford Pear has been determined to be invasive and is no longer recommended for planting. To avoid the potential spread of this species into natural areas, the trees will be removed and replaced with Florida native species.
All native species will be selected based on availability and suitability to the urban planting location. Proposed species include Dahoon Holly, Eastern Redbud, Flatwoods Plum, Flowering Dogwood, and Cabbage Palm.
$75,000 in grant funding was awarded to the City of Macclenny for this project. Funding is through FDACS - Florida Forest Service.
