ResisTrypSheep
Genetic diversity of local sheep breeds in Angola and identification of selection signatures for resistance to trypanosomes
Genetic diversity of local sheep breeds in Angola and identification of selection signatures for resistance to trypanosomes
ResisTrypSheep aims to characterize for the first time local sheep populations in Angola. These local populations although well adapted to their difficult breeding conditions have never been studied.
Furthermore, ResisTrypSheep aims to identify novel polymorphisms associated with adaptative traits with a focus on trypanosomosis, a disease that affects strongly animal production systems and local farmers who depend on agriculture for their subsistence.
Animal science is a field of science focused on the study of the biology of domesticated animals. Moreover, this field is also described as being focused on the production and management of farm animals we placed ResisTrypSheep in this field of knowledge:
i) it will provide novel knowledge regarding the genomes of sheep;
ii) it will create knowledge that will enable to design better strategies for management and production; iii) its results will impact animal productivity and health.
