RESISBOV — Genomics of Angolan indigenous cattle Angola's indigenous cattle have been shaped by drought, poor pasture and heavy disease pressure, and they remain almost entirely uncharacterised at the genomic level. As crossbreeding with exotic breeds spreads, this diversity is being lost before it has been described. RESISBOV builds on a sampling effort carried out in 2021, which established a biobank of samples from local livestock populations in southern Angola. The project has four objectives: 1. Characterise the genetic diversity of Angolan autochthonous cattle using high-throughput genome sequencing. 2. Identify genetic markers associated with adaptation to local ecosystems. 3. Train Angolan researchers in population genomics and bioinformatics. 4. Establish the scientific basis for conservation and management plans for indigenous cattle populations in Angola.
