First, this study performs a descriptive analysis of the gender composition in the research career of CONICET, in order to gain a more detailed understanding of the gender disparity in one of the most important research centers in the country. This is a public entity that brings together researchers affiliated with various institutions, making it the organization with the largest number of affiliated individuals in the research career in Argentina.
Secondly, the publication patterns of 69 academics from Argentina who have a profile on Google Scholar were analyzed. Google Scholar was selected as the search engine because it is an open-access platform where most members of the academic community in Argentina upload or link their publications. As stated by Cheng et al., Google Scholar: "1) automatically collects the latest publications from interdisciplinary databases to access broad coverage and also collects real-time data on the status of collected citations; 2) the self-management nature of author profiles allows explicit display of each individual's published papers" (2017, p. 1219, own translation).
The research method used is a network analysis based on co-authorship and citations. This method was chosen as science, like any other social activity, is based on critiquing and creating materials based on what has already been created (Malinak et al., 2013). In this case, the relationships among authors are relevant to place them at the center of academic discussion.
