This study focuses on the area of Social Sciences and Humanities within CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council of Argentina) and examines the gender distribution of researchers in the field of International Relations. The CONICET researchers are categorized into five ascending levels: Assistant, Researcher level I, Researcher level II, Researcher level III and Superior.
Within the area of Social Sciences and Humanities, there are 2,484 researchers, with 57% being male and 43% female. However, as we ascend through the researcher categories, we observe a shift towards a greater predominance of male researchers in higher-ranking positions.
The findings indicate that within the area of Social Sciences and Humanities at CONICET, women are underrepresented in higher-ranking positions. The progression towards greater male predominance at higher hierarchical levels suggests the presence of potential gender disparities and challenges related to gender equity within the research institution. Addressing these disparities is essential for promoting diversity and gender equality in the academic community. Further research is warranted to understand the underlying factors contributing to this trend and to develop targeted interventions to foster a more equitable representation of women in leadership roles within CONICET's research landscape.
