The rush process is meant to provide an introduction to the culture and members of the Zeta Chi chapter of Phi Chi Theta. It consists of a series of social & professional events to help prospective members (“rushes”) determine whether or not our fraternity of the right fit for them. At the end of the rush process, bids will be delivered to rushes who we believe will be a good match for our fraternity. Those who accept their bids (“pledges”) will continue with the process of entering the brotherhood.
We have rush twice a year, once during the fall semester and once during the spring semester.
Professional fraternities foster brotherhood the same way social fraternities do, yet they add an extra element by focusing on certain types of careers (such as business), giving brothers and sisters the ability to help each other academically, develop their professional interests, and network for the future. Professional fraternities are usually co-ed, while social fraternities are only for men and social sororities are only for women.
By bringing together people that share the same field and interests, and further developing their skills and talents in that field, they are able to capitalize on networking, professional development, and furthering every member’s careers and opportunities in that given field. Any recruiter will tell you, it's not what you've learned in a classroom that is important; it is your ability to apply that knowledge. A professional fraternity gives you an opportunity to assume leadership positions and to organize and coordinate events to demonstrate your ability to do just that.
Dues can vary each year based on the financial needs of the chapter. These dues are much lower than that of social fraternities and sororities.
The time commitment for Phi Chi Theta is very manageable. The weekly chapter meetings and recruitment events are required by all members. Some social, philanthropy, and professional events are not mandatory, but not all. We understand that our brothers have busy lives and we strive to provide a range of opportunities that can help you get the most out of your membership.
You can rush as many times as you would like. We hold recruitment at the beginning of the Fall semester and the beginning of the Spring semester.
Members are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5. Potential new members who do not meet this requirement will not be considered for membership. You are welcome to rush again if your GPA changes!
Beginning with your pledge class, leadership opportunities are immediately made available within the pledge class. Upon initiation, you are immediately made available to run for one of our many leadership positions in the form of the Executive Board or chair positions.
Casual attire is a conservative t-shirt, jeans, and closed toed shoes.
Business casual attire for men is a polo shirt or button down collar oxford shirt, pressed slacks, and leather shoes; for women, it is twin sweater sets, pressed blouses, skirts with length near the knee, or pressed slacks, and conservative closed toed shoes.
Business professional attire for men is described as a solid-color conservative suit with tie, with polished leather shoes and dress socks; for women, it is described as coordinating blouse with polished leather shoes.
Your attire should reflect your standards and professionalism. In dress, judgment, good taste, and sensitivity are important. We suggest doing more research online if you are still unsure of what is appropriate.
