There will be an extended opportunity to participate in premeeting trips with trips running on 10, 11 and 12 July. The premeeting trips on 10 and 11 July will run in the Minneapolis area and the ones on 12 July on the North Shore of Lake Superior based from the main meeting site. Trips for the main meeting will run on the north shore on 13 and 15 July. The indoor meetings and banquet will be held on 14 July. An additional day of North Shore field trips will be offered post meeting on 16 July.
On 10 and 11 July we will be in the Minneapolis area. On 10 July, we will go to the Warner Nature Center in Washington County. On 11 July, we will go to Elm Creek Park in Hennepin County, a known site for Plains Emerald (Somatochlora ensigera), and will visit a site on the Mississippi River. On the afternoon of 11 July will we travel to the North Shore of Lake Superior to the main meeting site at the Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center, about a 4 hour drive. On 12 July will visit sites in this area.
Will take place at Wolf Ridge ELC. Two days of field trips, (13 and 15 July) and a day for the main business meeting and presentations (Saturday 14 July).
Kurt Mead will be speaking on the geology and natural history of the North Shore on Friday 13 July at 7:00PM at Wolf Ridge.
An additional day in this area has the potential for longer hikes to get into larger peatland habitats for species such as Zigzag Darner (Aeshna sitchensis), Quebec Emerald (Somatochlora brevicincta) and Subarctic Darner (Aeshna subarctica) to name a few.
This is to be determined. We may see what folks haven’t seen and would like to focus on for species to determine the sites. The sites will probably be close to Wolf Ridge since folks will be leaving on Tuesday.
