This is a series of Beaver Ponds along a rocky, moderately flowing stream with riffles. Recents finds at this location include Harpoon Clubtail (Phanogomphus descriptus), Riffle Snaketail (Ophiogomphus carolus), Brown Spiketail (Cordulegaster bilineata)and Hagen's Bluet (Enallagma hageni). Also seen here regularly are Beaverpond Baskettail (Epitheca canis), Dot-tailed Whiteface (Leucorrhinia intacta), Chalk-fronted Corporal (Ladona julia), and Sedge Sprite (Nehalennia irene).
Explore the beaver ponds on both sides of the road. The sprites are found near the culvert and at the seeps on the hillside above the large upstream pond. Work downstream to discover rocky streams. The snaketail habitat is a distance downstream where the creek widens.
The Straight Fork site is private property but birders have been visiting this site for many years without issue. There are Alder and Least Flycatchers there and many years ago it was a spot for Bewick's Wren (now extirpated from the state). There are no signs or fences. Please be very respectful of this property.
