Call for Abstracts

Abstract Deadline extend to 22 May 2017

The 2017 DSA business meeting and paper session is scheduled for Saturday June 10 at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Virginia.

We welcome presentations on almost any topic consistent with the DSA’s mission to advance “the discovery, conservation and knowledge of Odonata through observation, collection, research, publication, and education.” These presentations, which typically span 20 minutes (including time for questions), are not limited to peer-reviewed, published research. Shorter presentations are welcome and requests for longer talks will be considered.

If you are interested in giving a presentation about your research or other topic of interest at the 2017 DSA meeting, please submit the following information via email to Steve Roble (steve.roble@dcr.virginia.gov; 804-786-8633) by May 22, 2017:

  • Name
  • E-mail address
  • Phone number
  • Names of co-authors (if applicable)
  • Institutional affiliation (if applicable)
  • Affiliation (or speaker) location (city, state)
  • Title of presentation (preferably less than 120 characters)
  • Brief abstract (250 word limit)

Abstracts should follow this general format:

1) Introduction: What is the purpose of the research or presentation?

2) Methods: A brief description of experiment design, field investigation, lab work, or other relevant work.

3) Results

4) Conclusion

Abstracts should be written in the active voice. All abstracts will be reviewed by a panel, which may suggest that the author make revisions. Any proposed presentations that are inconsistent with the DSA’s mission may be subject to rejection.

Abstracts will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Authors will be notified of their acceptance no later than June 1.

A digital projector and laptop (PC) for PowerPoint presentations will be available in the meeting room. If you have additional audio-visual needs, please specify them and we will try to accommodate you.
