Dayton isn’t just where we live - it’s what we build together. The Imagining Community Symposium is more than a conference; it is a shared space for the Miami Valley to come together to engage in education and dialogue to confront our past, understand our present, and actively design a more equitable future. First inspired by the traveling Undesign the Redline exhibit, we unite a community collective of activists, artists, academics, scholars, and neighbors working side by side to plot a path toward a more just and inclusive Dayton.
For too long, the maps of our city were drawn to divide us. Dayton remains one of the most segregated regions in the country - a reality that impacts everything from housing and health to education and the environment.
We believe that to fix these systems, we must first see them clearly. The Symposium serves as an annual "check-in" for the soul of our city, where we move past small talk and into the hard, necessary work of inclusive community building.
The short answer: you. Whether you are a student looking to make an impact, a community organizer seeking partners, or a resident who simply wants a brighter future for the next generation, there is a seat for you at our table.
Join the movement! We don't just imagine a stronger Dayton; we plot the path to get there. The Imagining Community Symposium is free, open to the public, and fueled by the belief that Dayton is a tight-knit city with infinite room to grow. Click here to register for the next Symposium.
Every year, we take a deep dive into a critical pillar of justice. Take a look at our past symposia to see the issues we have tackled as a community.
