Homework

This week's homework:

The red homework folder will go home daily. Please check it regularly. Also, students will sometimes write important reminders in their agendas. Please check these as well.

Week of June 10th

There will be no written homework this week. Please read, at home, this week and throughout this summer.

UCS' Homework Policy

Each day, there will be a bit of homework for our students at United Community School. The homework will usually consist of 20 minutes of reading, with an adult, and some math and/or spelling. For reading, it is acceptable for the adult to read to the student sometimes. However, it is very important that each student is able to read and comprehend grade level material. Students need to read books and passages, themselves, and be able to answer questions about the reading material. In order to show proficiency for the North Carolina Read to Achieve Law, students will need to read and answer questions on their own. We want our families to enjoy reading together and we don't want it to be a stressful or frustrating time. We also do not want homework to be a chore each evening. Please sign the reading log each night.

Homework assignments, for the week, will go home on Mondays and are due on Fridays. Please continue to check the homework folders daily. You will often find graded classwork in the folder.

Reading will be logged in the student homework folder each evening. We will also, write notes in it, when necessary, so that you are kept updated. If there is an issue that requires more time and space for us to tell you about then we will either email you or call you.

Please check your email regularly. This will be our main form of "school-to-home" communication and some information may be time-sensitive. Please know, however, that your emails (to us) may not be seen while class is in session and probably won't be responded to until after school hours. Therefore, if you need to let us know something important, during the day, please call the office and leave a message. We will NOT be using TEXT MESSAGING as a form of communication. This is a policy set by the UCS board.
