Development and Installation Timeline
Week 3
Tasks:
Submit the written and visual project proposal
Finalize project title, materials list, and site possibilities
Create sketches and interaction flowcharts for the overall system
Begin researching sound materials and collecting potential voice or ambient recordings
Week 4
Tasks:
Start knitting the first fabric piece using conductive yarn
Build and test the voltage divider circuit using Arduino and 10kΩ resistor
Experiment with analog input readings from hand pressure on knitted fabric
Confirm that resistance values change consistently under touch
Week 5
Tasks:
Finish knitting 3–5 fabric patches and stitch in conductive yarn lines
Design wire routing and layout strategy for mounting on final wall surface
Build out the rest of the circuits on breadboard or small perf boards
Ensure each patch has an assigned analog input pin and stable reading behavior
Week 6
Tasks:
Record original audio: voice stories, environmental soundscapes, ambient loops
Use Audacity or other DAWs to edit, clean, and compress files for playback
Assign unique sound content to each patch based on concept
Organize audio files into a structure for use in TouchDesigner
Week 7
Tasks:
Write serial communication code to send sensor data to the computer
In TouchDesigner, use serial DAT and CHOPs to receive and interpret data
Map analog values to audio playback triggers using logic gates or thresholds
Test all patches to verify audio responds only to intentional touch
Week 8
Tasks:
Mount patches on wall or frame using clips, velcro, or hanging thread
Tidy up wire connections and secure Arduino and speakers
Run complete interaction system and observe real-time behavior
Invite peers or classmates to try the piece and offer feedback on clarity, emotional tone, and responsiveness
Week 9
Tasks:
Make final adjustments to patch spacing, layout, and mounting height
Route and conceal wires using textile tubing, channels, or labels
Calibrate audio sensitivity: eliminate false triggers, adjust volume/mix balance
Begin writing artist statement and technical documentation for final presentation
Week 10
Tasks:
Film clean video walkthrough of the project in use
Take high-resolution photos of final patch layout, audience interaction, and wiring details
Upload final documentation materials (PDF, Google Slides, etc.)
Present and explain the project in class, including creative process and technical challenges
Total Duration: 10 Weeks
