The Summer Success Program, hosted by the Teaching and Learning Commons, is a free, non-credit-bearing summer program designed to help incoming students feel more prepared for introductory biology, chemistry, and/or physics courses before the new academic year begins!
This program is a great fit for students who are planning to take:
Biology 1 - The Cell
Chemistry 6A - General Chemistry 1
Physics 1A - Mechanics
Over the course of five-weeks, students will review STEM content and foundational math led by undergraduate peer-tutors and develop problem-solving strategies for future coursework. As students complete the Program Intake Form, students can share their preferred subject track(s) from any of the following below:
Biology: Students will review foundational topics such as Scientific Scale and Method, Intro to Chemistry, Macromolecules, Cell Theory and Types, and Organelles.
Chemistry: Students will build a strong foundation in Measurement, Units, and Conversions, Atomic Structure and the Periodic Table, Mole and Molar Mass, Chemical Equations, and Stoichiometry.
Physics: Students will review key concepts such as Measurement and Units, Scientific Notation, Motion: Velocity and Acceleration, Freefall and Kinematics, and Newton's Laws.
Students may share their interest in one or more subject tracks! Participants will attend two workshops per week for each subject they enroll.
Each subject track helps students build preparation in discipline-specific content while also strengthening the foundational math skills needed for success in STEM courses. Therefore, some of the math components that will be reviewed in the program include, but are not limited to: fractions trigonometry, algebra, and other core concepts.

Dates: Summer Session 2, August 3, 2026 – September 4, 2026
Cost: Free
Credit: Not for UC San Diego course credit
Time commitment: About 4 hours per week per track (includes two 90-minute live workshops each week and one hour of asynchronous assignments outside of sessions)
Format: Program modality (in-person or virtual) will be determined based on participant interest and enrollment needs. In-person sessions will be held on the UCSD campus at the Teaching and Learning Commons.

How to Sign Up
To join the program, students will need to complete a two-part intake process:
Part 1: Complete the Intake Form
Students should first complete an Intake Form, where they can:
Learn more about the program
Review program expectations
Decide whether they would like to participate in the program
Part 2: Select Your Tracks and Submit Your Application
Within the same form, students who choose to continue will be asked to share:
The subject track(s) they are interested in
Their schedule and modality preferences
A few short responses describing their goals and what they hope to gain from participating in this program
Enrollment is offered on a first come, first served basis, depending on eligibility, scheduling, and available space. If you are interested in participating, we encourage you to complete the form as soon as possible. The form will remain open from now until June 15, 2026.
