Outreach

The Slade Group is dedicated to engaging with the surrounding San Diego community through different community based research projects and participating in science outreach events with partner organizations. Below are the most major projects we've been a part of

Air Quality Outreach

In addition to researching speech aerosol, we participate in community outreach on the airborne nature of COVID-19 and other respiratory aerosol and help organize build days for Corsi-Rosenthal Cubes which can clean indoor air.

This photo was taken at the 2021 back to school Corsi-Ciube build, showing graduate students Adam Cooper and Cindy Tan.

CAICE Outreach

Our members collaborate inside and outside the laboratory with the Center for Aerosol Impacts on Chemistry of the Environment. This involves participating in demos, raising scientific awareness at community events and mentoring high school and community college students in low cost sensor research projects. For more details, please visit their website here!

This photo was taken as the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering at Petco Park where Slade group students (Ryan Tuminello shown here) explained how breaking waves form sea spray aerosol and their impacts on the environment.

Greeks Gone Green - Past Project

Check out the "Smog Eating Wall" next to Price Center which utilizes a titanium dioxide photocatalyst to catalyze the removal of NOx!
