OCTO TEAM
Hi! My name is Kalen Pecson and I am BTECH senior at UCSD. I am especially interested in product and process design. I was able to learn many applicable skills throughout this project including: team management, part compilation, and 3D modelling. While senior design projects can be extremely demanding, they have emphasized having a range of academic and interpersonal skills that will carry on into our careers. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity the BENG department and Yeo lab have provided us.
Hi, my name is Madison Tomison and I am a fourth year bioengineering, biotechnology major here at UC San Diego. I appreciated my time working on the Senior Design project, as it taught me various skills about adaptation and problem solving for a multitude of project implications. Though Senior Design can be difficult at times, it is worth the sweat and tears in the end!
Hi, I'm Edward McGee. Being biosystems, working on a transcriptomics project was a great opportunity. Working on the code for the microscope was an amazing experience as I was studying new, exciting code and trying to piece the code together as a puzzle to make the moving pieces work together. Working with a team showed me the importance of deadlines and using my time efficiently. I am proud I got to be part of building a microscope and am excited to apply what I learned from this project.
Hello! My name is Estefania Quintana. I am a BTECH major especially interested in using biotechnology to find climate solutions. This project has taught me to be flexible, open to learning new skills when necessary, and to understand how every decision, including seemingly minor ones, can have a major impact on the final design and its impact. I hope to soon carry these experiences with me into my career!
Acknowledgments
Noorsher Ahmed, Ph.D.
The primary mentor who consistently helped the team devise strategies for tackling problems. Weekly meetings were set up with Noor to ensure timelines were satisfied and any confusion resolved. Throughout the entire process, Noor has been an amazing resource in leading the team towards a design and providing further research resources. Without Noor's consistent advice, the team would have made significantly less progress. We want to thank him for everything he has done for us throughout the last year!
Aayush Somani
The team's primary TA responsible for most of the feedback and check-ins with the team. Aayush helped point the team towards areas of improvement as well as ensuring the team stayed on schedule. Aayush was always extremely encouraging and positive about the team's work, while also directing us towards more comprehensive solutions.
Professor Taylor
We would like to thank Professor Taylor and the entire crew responsible for making the BENG 187 class a reality. We understand how difficult it can be to organize that many projects, and are grateful for the amount of help, guidance, and resources Professor Taylor has provided for the class. Without a well-organized and structured class, it would have been much more difficult to deliver our reports. The class was perfectly synced with the projects, enabling a slow build-up of information. Thank you again, Professor!
Gene Yeo, Ph.D. and the entirety of Yeo Lab
The team would like to thank the Yeo lab for allowing us to use their space and utilities to work on our project. The team is forever grateful for the financial backing the Yeo lab provided to facilitate the creation of a complete instrument. Throughout the entire process, the lab was always extremely welcoming and helpful in aiding the team get the materials needed. Without their support, none of this could have happened. Thank you so much Professor Yeo and everyone in the lab!
