After previously researching the bias within specific professions I became curious how this bias would be translated to wealth. Would the Ai continue to have bias or in a broader scope of financial prompting would there be more variety of people in the image generations? The following images will be generated around the contrast of both sides of the story. It will show what the Ai deems the wealthy and the poor.
This prompting resulted in only white men with many of them being older. The only time women were shown was when they were young and sexualized. They also never showed up on their own, but accompanied by a white man. Facial expressions were always proud or happy.
This prompting resulted in people with darker skin only. There was a tendency for men throughout the prompting, but much more women were shown in comparison to the prompt for the rich. The people were always shown to have sad looks on their faces.
Prompt 3: employed person
This prompting resulted in only white people with collared shirts. There was a tendency for women in the results, but it was a relatively even split compared to other results between men and women. There is no sign of anyone of a different race within the employed image generations.
Prompt 4: unemployed person
This prompting resulted in people of any race. There was a split of about 70% men and 30% women among the images. This prompting has had the least amount of bias when considering the prompt in isolation. However, there is a clear bias given only white people were employed while anyone could be unemployed.
There was bias in all but one of the promptings that I did. With astonishingly large amounts when it came to the rich versus the poor. The fact that there was no outliers from being light skinned and wealthy to being dark skinned and poor establishes a big problem with how these Ai are trained. The sample of the unemployed was diverse and what we hope for the other samples to indicate. As time goes on the bias that can be found needs to be fixed to avoid us programming discrimination into our tools such as Ai.
