3D Printing & Tolerances
We used FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) and SLA (stereolithography) 3D printing for rapid prototyping of our designs. We gained experience in types of 3D printing and materials, 3D printing settings and slicing, and troubleshooting issues with the printer(s).
CAD Software
We used SOLIDWORKS and Fusion360 to model our designs, allowing them to be 3D printed. Our use of CAD software allowed us to create assemblies of our final product and make adjustments to our design before even creating a physical prototype.
Design Process
Throughout this project, we learned about the design process including research, design, prototyping, testing, and revision.
O-rings and Seals
We used an O-ring to create a leakproof seal between the TVP catheter and our adapter. We learned how to design grooves for O-rings and dimension our pieces such that we were able to properly engage and compress the O-ring. This included learning about various types of O-ring seals and their individual needs.
