These password reset instructions assume you have already visited the "DUO Authentication" tile on the home page. If you have not, please do so before continuing here.
Upon your hiring, you will have received an email that contained your account information, a temporary password, and the link that directed you here. For your very first password reset, you will need to use the temporary password that you were provided. Please see the INITIAL PASSWORD RESET section.
Once you have reset your password the first time, please scroll and see the UCPath section BEFORE LEAVING THIS WEBSITE.
For password resets after your initial one, please scroll until you reach the FUTURE PASSWORD RESETS section.
INITIAL PASSWORD RESET
Go to password.ucsd.edu
Type in your username and click on “Continue”
3. Next click on “I know my current AD password and would like to change it.”
4. Now sign in using your Active Directory account and the temporary password that you were provided in your new-hire email.
5. Now click on "Send Me a Push" (This step takes into account that you have already set up DUO. If you have not set up DUO yet, please see the DUO setup tile on the main page of this website)
6. Now enter the temporary password we provided and your new password twice.
7. Click "Change Password" and your password reset will be complete.
UCPath
Once you have reset your password the first time, it is imperative that you navigate to UCPath.ucsd.edu in a web browser and do the following:
1) Click the "Login to UCPath" button
2) Next, select UC San Diego and it will prompt you with an Active Directory login and a DUO push.
Upon your first login, you will be prompted to set up security questions. Please walk through that process before moving on to the next instruction.
3) Next, locate the "Personal Information Summary" link located in the Personal Information section.
4) Click on "Personal Information Summary" and in the next page you will see various options. Scroll until you reach the "Email Addresses" tile.
5) Expand the "Email Addresses" drop down menu.
6) Click on "Change Email Addresses" and add a "Home" email that is a separate personal email that you have. You can not use a UCSD affiliated email for this. It must be a gmail, hotmail, or outlook account etc.
7) Now that you have added a "Home" email account to your UCPath, if you need to reset your password in the future, please see the FUTURE PASSWORD RESETS section.
FUTURE PASSWORD RESETS
Once you set your password the initial time (please see INITIAL PASSWORD RESET section if you are trying to change your password for the first time after being hired) and set up a "Home" email address in UCPath (see UCPath section to learn how to do this), you will then be able to use DUO to reset your password going forward. To do this, please see the following:
1) Navigate to password.ucsd.edu, enter your Active Directory username and hit "Continue".
2) Choose the "I am an employee and forgot my password" option
3) Next, have DUO send you a Push notification (some of you will have this sent automatically based on your settings in DUO. Others will have to send it manually)
4) Once you verify it's you on DUO Mobile, you will see the following and will need to verify your "Home" email address.
5) Confirm your email address and you will be sent an email to your "Home" email with instructions for how to reset your password.
6) Follow the link sent to your email to finalize your password reset.
