Sharing Culture through Food

Let's cook together! Do you have a beloved family recipe or comfort food creation that you would be willing to share with your community? We are creating a Cognitive Science cook book and would love to include a recipe for one (or more!) of your favorite meals.

Diversity Seminar Series

The UCSD Department of Cognitive Science aims to host a quarterly lunch seminar series inviting researchers from a variety of cultures to present their work and discuss the importance of incorporating diverse perspectives in research. The event usually includes both an informal lunch with the speaker and a research talk.

Cultural Celebration Series

Through this series, we aim to help students, faculty, and staff in our department share and celebrate their cultures with the larger UCSD community. For example, one of the events we sponsor is a Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration during the last week of October. This Mexican holiday is traditionally observed October 31 - November 2nd, when people celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed away. Some Chicanx members of our department share this warm and festive holiday by creating a space in the Cognitive Science Building for our community to post pictures, drawings, and warm memories of loved ones who have passed. The entryway is filled with marigolds as part of the celebration, and those who wish to celebrate privately can take marigolds home with them. Our department will be continuing these events in the upcoming year.
