What is FEA?
FEA, or finite elemental analysis, is a way of studying how components interact with defined external changes such as forces, heat, and pressure. This gives insight as to how a 3D modeled design will fare in the real world.Â
Spinal Imaging Fixture FEA Model
The model was created using a static boundary condition with the bottom of the fixture fixed in place and the pot experiencing a force load. The practical application of the fixture will be using spinal segments, however in order to simulate a worst case scenario, the load exerted onto the fixture was that of an entire male spine. The assembly was held together with pin connectors and fixed hinge joint boundary conditions. From this model the stresses, strains and displacements were plotted.
Stress
Max stress experienced 3.377x10^5 (N/m^2)
Max yield stress 2.008x10^7 (N/m^2)
Displacement
Maximum deformation 1.783x10^-3 (mm)
Strain
Maximum strain 8.30x10^-6
