We are a graduate student run organization that works to build and support a close network of queer-identifying STEM scientists and to broaden their representation and provide a more inclusive picture of people in STEM.
To do this we, we host regular community building events, bring in scientists from across the US to hold seminars and professional development workshops, raise funds to send trainees to national conferences, and partner with other student groups at UC Santa Cruz.
Congratulations to our President, Dr. Vanessa Mariscal on their PhD thesis defense Friday May 30th, 2025! We're all so proud of you!
Join us for our annual pride event this Thursday June 5th from 4 to 7 pm! We'll be on Science Hill in the Red Brick Square tie dyeing shirts, playing yard games like four square and cornhole, and more while dancing to only the best music some join us!
Every year that we've thrown this event, we've been so blessed by the turn out and support from our local community so please come have fun and celebrate with us! Additionally we will have four professors from across STEM departments at UCSC to give short talks on the importance of diversity and community not only in science but in our every day lives.
We'll also be selling shirts and other swag in addition to a big raffle event to raise funds for the 2025-2026 academic year! Donations and support here directly enables us to keep holding our community events throughout the year, bring in speakers for seminars and trainings, and to send students to national conferences. Lastly if you'd be willing to volunteer to help us run this event you'll recieve three free raffle tickets! (Volunteer sign-up here).
Please stop by and show your support and enjoy the festivities! If you'd like to participate in our future events or join in on the leadership team reach out to us at any time at ostem@ucsc.edu
